EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description Acclaimed director Larry Clark delivers his most powerful film since KIDS. Marty (Brad Renfro) is a tormented surfer who relies on his longtime pal Bobby (Nick Stahl) for rides to the beach and South Florida bars despite vicious abuse. But when Bobby turns his unwanted attention to Marty's new girlfriend Lisa (Rachel Miner) and her best friend Ally (Bijou Phillips), Lisa decides Bobby's reign of terror must end. Assembling a crew of alienated suburban teens, she forms a deadly plan to get Bobby out of the way once and for all, turning friends into enemies and casual acquaintances into co-defendants in a murder that rocked America to its core. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 206 reviews)
| A Spellbinding Masterpiece This movie is fantastic in every sense of the word. You get the sense that in real life you can have some financially prosperous families that have some really screwed up offspring. The acting in this film is top notch! Every single person is absolutely believable in this story.
Upon watching this film you can really see how someone can be driven to kill and feel vindicated about doing so. But you also see how the feeling of exacting the ultimate revenge can take a toll on your soul. This movie is not only a true story, and a drastic look at very serious issues but it also has a good standing with a comedic and sexual approach throughout. This movie without a doubt gets five stars. I would give ten if I could. December 17, 2008 | | Ahhite I just didn't care for the movie itself. Never had seen it before, just a cheap movie with an all-star cast. It was ok. Thanks for the speedy delivery... October 18, 2008 | | Bully As many other reviewers have suggested, this film is not for the faint of heart. One might go as far as to say it isn't really for the strong of heart, either. The ovie's protrayal of teenage angst gone horribly wrong is brutal, frank, frightening, and unsettling.
This film centers around a real-life situation where one boy bullied another for years while proclaiming to be his friend. The bully's parents seem to be totally out of touch with their son. In fact all the parents in this film are depicted as out of touch, whether by choice or because their kids live completely outside of parental authority is not really clear, but the parents definitely have no clue what is happening in their kids' lives.
So to combat the bullying, the victim's girlfriend conceives a plot to kill the perpetrator. How this plot unfolds gives insight into how shallow kids think. The girl at least decided not to use her mom's handgun because it would be too easy for investigators to figure out what happened, but the final choice on how to kill is equally weak and shallow. But they go through with the murder without first having thought of any kind of alibi. Then after the killing the kids all begin to talk with associates who were not part of the conspiracy.
The film iteslf is strong during the build-up, the plotting, and during the murder. It is very weak in the aftermath. It show police detectives arriving at one of the kids' houses, but after that we just see the group in prison uniforms in a courtroom. Nothing is done to set up the trial or even the indictments. Perhaps if the film hadn't wasted time on the sex and drug scenes it would have had more time for more pertinent story lines.
I can't really recommend this film to anyone. Maybe it's just me, but this was way too disturbing to really get a sense of enjoyment from it. September 23, 2008 | | Bully Movie I recieved the movie in a timely manner and it was in the same condition the seller described it to be. I really enjoyed this movie as well and am now currently writing the inmate from this movie. I appreciate being able to find someone that was honest with their products. Thanks! May 05, 2008 | | Very Brilliant film Bully is clearly one of the most brilliant films I have ever seen and I see everything/ Larry Clark has made a movie that shocks you but keeps your attention the whole time. Nick Stahl and Brad Renfro play excllent lead roles as does Bijou Phillps and Rachel Miner. The film has a lot of sex, nudity and a very violent scene. But it's worth it. When you see this film make sure you see the DVD. March 26, 2008 | |
