EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description Matthew McConaughey (U-571) and Christian Bale (SHAFT) star in an explosive action-packed adventure with bone-charring special effects that will have you glued to your seat! When workers in a London tunneling project awaken an unearthly fire-breathing beast from centuries of slumber, all hell breaks loose. Twelve-year-old Quinn (Bale) sees his mother, one of the workers, die trying to escape this new terror. Twenty years later as a "fire chief," he tries to keep a group of refugees alive with fierce dragons dominating the air, burning the land and feeding on the ash. Unexpectedly, Van Zan (McConaughey), a hotshot American militia leader, shows up with a ragtag group of slayers on a perilous crusade to hunt down and destroy the beasts. Tempers flare when there is a struggle for leadership -- until both men realize only one species is getting out of this alive. | Amazon.com The Road Warrior meets Dragonslayer in the briskly entertaining post-apocalyptic action thriller Reign of Fire. Reign of Fire exists primarily to give us a bigger and better dragon than the Vermithrax Pejorative of 1981's classic Dragonslayer, and in that regard, the special effects are mightily impressive; the reptilian fire-breathers are stupendously convincing. While the earlier film offers a richer, more whimsical medieval adventure, Reign of Fire is a fast-moving tale of man versus dragon that takes place in the charred England of 2020, after Earth has been scorched by rapidly multiplying dragons and the aftermath of a futile nuclear counterstrike. Mixing high-tech gadgetry with primitive survivalism, X-Files alumnus Rob Bowman makes the most of his midlevel budget, establishing a lavish castle base for the rugged, adversarial teaming of Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey as dragonslayers on the brink of extinction. With a steady supply of crowd-pleasing highlights, Reign of Fire is a pyrotechnical treat. --Jeff Shannon |

| 2 stars for life-like special effects. Besides that there's nothing worth watching. I give this movie 2 stars for its life-like special effects. Besides that there's nothing worth watching. Threre's nothing in the plot. The acting is so so. In short, there's nothing interesting here except the special effects. August 25, 2008 | | There be dragons there Battling dragons was a story told in legends of knights in the dark ages.
The old maps had at the edge of the known world:
"There be dragons there".
They actually found flying reptiles in the fossil record in the very far past.
Here a cave in a London underground excavation is uncovered: the sleeping dragons rise to bring down man.
The last hope of man seems to be a small band of dragon slayers.
Only one man knows where the original cave lair is, where the only male
makes his home.
Some need heroes, but others are born to it.
It is a fun movie that blends legend with adventure in an strange new future.
August 11, 2008 | | great and easy transaction! Great and easy transaction--fast shipping and product arrived in great condition. I would definitely recommend this seller! May 31, 2008 | | Matt/Christian and one BADDDD DRAGON!!! Matt and Christian sharing a screen with one really bad azz male dragon, could a movie have anymore testosterone than that. The story was nicely done, FX nicely executed and the acting no less than great, I was completely satisfied with my decision to give this movie it's "day in court". I am purchasing a second copy of this dvd this week because cable chooses to exhaust me with next to impossible to enjoy movies repeating them over and over again and letting great movies like this sit on some shelf collecting dust. What a Shame! May 21, 2008 | | One of the better dragon movies ever made. Not cheap or a so called B movie as some reviewers have claimed. In fact the film totes some of the most realistic of all CGI creature special effects. It is a bit of a testosterone fueled post apocalyptic dragon slaying film. Matthew McConaughey really shines here in his wild character portrayal. It is an entertaining film overall, and a well done and creative peice of science-fiction. In terms of dragon movies, Its in my top 3 being 1981's Dragonslayer, 1996's Dragonheart and 2002's Reign Of Fire. Good dragon movies are not easy to make and many are plagued with a fake or cheesy tinge. Reign Of Fire is pretty good quality. April 14, 2008 | |
