Making no attempt at factual accuracy, Ned Kelly is still an engaging action film with its heart in the right place. You don't need to be a student of Australian history to know that a movie about the life of the notorious folk hero and outlaw is not going to be a light-hearted romp through the outback. Injustice, persecution, and unlawful imprisonment are the meat of his story, all presented here with not too much of a rose-tinted perspective amid generous doses of obligatory action. Rebellious teenager Ned Kelly (Heath Ledger) is wrongfully imprisoned for stealing a horse and, when he returns to the bosom of his large Irish family, finds that the police won't let him go straight. After being accused of a crime he didn't commit, Kelly is left with no option but to go on the run. Accompanied by his gang (among them Orlando Bloom) he robs banks to survive and also to gather the money to free his family from prison. There is some considerable romanticizing of the story and the man himself, due in part to Ledger's affable Robin Hood-esque working-class hero portrayal. Bloom is wide-eyed and daring as Kelly's main man, and Naomi Watts as his married mistress has the thankless task of breaking up some great action sequences to play the unnecessary love interest. Originally filmed as a Mick Jagger vehicle in 1970. --Kristen Bowditch

Another great Heath Ledger flick...
was glad to have been able to rent this one. The story of Ned Kelley is a really good one and (IMO) Heath did an excellent job (as always) in the role. It was sad to see how Ned was treated...and just like Heath...was gone way too soon. I can't say this is my fave flick, but I'd recommend it - it's a good watch.

Surprisingly better than I thought. . .
Yes, everyone likes Heath Ledger and it's sad that he's gone - but he has left some excellent work out there. This is one of his better films. I'm glad I bought it, it's good enough to watch twice.

Quick ship - Perfect Condition
This dvd was in my player in less than a week of ordering it. Really a pretty good movie. I have read the history of Ned Kelly, and the movie stayed close to the reality. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is so many details were left out. The movie could have run for 20 more minutes easily, and given more facts to make everything tie together a bit better. Other than that, great flick, great acting and directing.

Ned Kelly
I very much enjoyed this movie starring Heath Ledger who just very recently passed away. It was great to see him in one of the few movies I had not seen before. I really enjoyed the action and enjoyed watching both him and Orlando Bloom. I think others would enjoy this movie also.

Great memory of Heath Ledger
I thought this movie was very good and will be a good memory to the honor of Heath Ledger. He did a great job portraying Ned Kelly. This is the kind of movie that I could watch more than once. It is so sad to see how much Ned Kelly was mistreated and pushed into doing what he did. I would definitely recommend this movie.
