Twins! gives you all the information you need to have a safe and sound twin pregnancy so you can concentrate on the joy of raising happy, healthy children. Congratulations! | Amazon.com Review The authors bill it as a "truly epic journey": the voyage from pregnancy through a lifetime of parenting twins. Perinatologists Connie L. Agnew, M.D., and Alan H. Klein, M.D. (also a pediatrician) incorporate a winning combination of helpful facts, educated opinion, and candid roundtable discussions--a combination that nicely maps the journey's first course for expectant parents of multiples. Those readers familiar with the ever-popular What to Expect When You're Expecting--a mainstay for first-time parents--will be delighted to see a similar format employed here. The pregnancy and birth chapters break down into chunks of gestational weeks, outlining basic fetal development, mom's changing body, and special "transitional" issues common to each trimester. These chapters are further enhanced by pencil illustrations of the mother's pregnant body (with a peekaboo view of the developing twins) and roundtable discussions involving the authors and a panel of twins' parents. The book's second half delves into getting through that first, tough year. While ample information on labor and delivery overlaps both halves of the book, this second section spends more time focused on the growing babies and the challenges new parents face in their relationships with their children and with each other. Again, the roundtable discussions prove quite valuable; it's always nice to read encouraging words from those who have lived through preterm delivery, sleep deprivation, and older sibling regression. Growth charts and a helpful resource guide of organizations, periodicals, and retail outlets round out the package. --Liane Thomas |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 46 reviews)
| Great book if you are having twins This is a great book if you are having twins. I read it cover to cover & then certain sections a second time. I really love the "Roundtable Talk" where parents of twins discuss a topic. There's nothing like hearing helpful hints & advice from people who have actually have twins. I also found the resource guide in the back of the book very helpful. July 28, 2008 | | Great primer for twin pregnancy This is a great book for an overview of what to expect when you're expecting twins. We've bought other books and this one has been spot on about symptoms and development. It is posative and upbeat and really covers alot of concerns one may have. I bought the La Leche Leagues guide on twins and it mostly covers breast feeding, we bought another book that was too vague, this one is great and gives you an idea of what's to come, questions to ask your care provider and more. In a nutshell, this was a really good book for those expecting twins. May 13, 2008 | | Generic; not very helpful I didn't much care for this book. I found it to be a compilation of all the generic advice found in the non-multiples books. For example, the recommendations on weight gain tell you how much to gain by trimester, while the Barbara Luke book recommends weight gain by week according to starting BMI. I was also frustrated on several occasions to read what I felt were opinionated statement later on in the book about what not to do during an earlier stage (for example, I remember something along the lines of "whatever you do, don't announce your twin pregnancy before week 13" far along in the book, rather than early on- not only is this the author's strong opinion, it also came a bit late if you didn't do as they recommend). November 18, 2007 | | Very helpful information! I found this book to be full of very good information for my twin pregnancy. I really enjoyed the roundtable discussions at the end of every chapter. November 14, 2007 | | Good Read I am not sure if there is any good book out there to prepare you for twins but if I had to choose one of the 3 books I picked I would choose this one as the best. It had lots of good info that I needed before I had the twins but after the twins came I found that What to Expect the 1st year was the best. October 26, 2007 | |
