Product Description

ju·das strain, n. A scientific term for an organism that drives an entire species to extinction

A master at combining historical and scientific intrigue with cutting-edge adventure, New York Times bestselling author of Map of Bones and Black Order James Rollins returns with his most relentless, high-octane thriller to date—a terrifying story of an ancient menace reborn to plague the modern world . . . and of an impossible hope that lies hidden in the most shocking place imaginable: within the language of angels.

From the depths of the Indian Ocean, a horrific plague has arisen to devastate humankind—a disease that's unknown, unstoppable . . . and deadly. But it is merely a harbinger of the doom that is to follow.

Aboard a cruise liner transformed into a makeshift hospital, Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis—operatives of the shadowy covert organization SIGMA Force—search for answers to the bizarre affliction that has inexplicably washed ashore. But there are others with far less altruistic intentions. In a savage and sudden coup, terrorists hijack the vessel, turning a mercy ship into a floating bio-weapons lab.

At a Fourth of July celebration a world away, SIGMA's commander Gray Pierce thwarts the murderous schemes of a beautiful assassin—a would-be killer who holds the first clue to the discovery of a possible cure. With the fate of every man, woman, and child on Earth hanging in the balance, Pierce joins forces with the woman who wanted him dead, and together they embark upon an astonishing quest—one that winds through Venetian tombs, Byzantine cathedrals, and jungle-encrusted ruins—following the trail of the most fabled explorer in history: Marco Polo.

But time is an enemy as a worldwide pandemic grows rapidly out of control. And as a relentless madman dogs their every step, Pierce and his unlikely ally are being pulled into an astonishing mystery buried deep in antiquity and in humanity's genetic code. And as the seconds tick closer to doomsday, Pierce will realize he can truly trust no one—not the bewitching enigma who runs at his side or even those who are closest to him—for any one of them could be . . . a Judas.

great fun!
just finished reading the JS, i've read all of the sigma series, except the latest release,
which i will, soon!
i'm a huge rollin's fan,
of them all, this one was ok, but not as good as black order, imo,
worth reading nontheless!

Rollins keeps on rollin'
If you enjoyed Black Order or The DaVinci Code, you'll like The Judas Strain. You'll want to put together the pieces of the puzzle before the characters do, but you'll won't be able to. And if having one piece missing from a jigsaw puzzle drives you crazy, be ready to finish this book and immediately start the search for the next Sigma Force novel.

Enjoyable book but could have been better
First of all, I enjoyed the book. It was typical Rollins fare - out there, wild plot lines, etc. However, what I didn't like about this book is that there was almost too much going on. Too many mini story lines made me feel like someone was manning a channel changer when I was trying to watch a movie. And many of the mini story lines were left hanging with no ending and some never went anywhere. Besides that fact though, the book was a good read and certainly kept me turning the pages.

A page turner but...
This book gets 3 stars because it is, in fact, a very quick read. Lots of action and fun at times. However, there are far too many times where you find yourself saying "Puh-leaze!". Giant killer squid? Red crab swarms that hack through everything in their path, including human legs? A plague that turns the diseased into ravenous cannibals? (When did this become Night of the Living Dead?) An elderly couple - one of whom has a prosthetic leg mind you - that's able to outsmart, and physically overtake, trained mercenaries? And, it goes on and on and on like this. I have no problem with the suspension of disbelief. But, unless I'm wrong, this was not intended to be a fantasy novel; it's a thriller. But, unfortunately one that leaves you saying to the author "You've got to be kidding!"

No Strain On Your Eyes Here!
James Rollins returns to his highly successful Sigma series here with a 4th and even better book than Map of Bones.

Having become one of the top-notch thriller/Adventure writers out there today, James Rollins continues to breathe new life into this genre with crazy twists and turns of ancient science and dark designs on the world.

Done with polished panache, and surging forward with a frenetic pace with solid action/adventure stuff that Hollywood is truly missing into making into cinematic masterpiece, Rollins's 4th Sigma Force novel really is a unique and ultra-exciting installment that has once again proven that Rollins has a hard grip on this thriller genre that is second-to-none.

We were the first reviewers to review his first novel - Subterranean - and knew right then and there that this guy was going to rise to the top with his fast-paced and thrilling writing acumen.

If you are one of the few that hasn't already discovered this tremendous writer - then do yourself a favor and purchase a James Rollins book, and get ready to leave your woes behind for many an hour.
