CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 8 reviews)
| Review by Andrea I love this book and this series! Darby Carter is a 13 year old girl who is "horse crazy"! Darby meets her best friend Hoku, who is sorrel filly horse. Darby and Hoku are sole mates and together they grow and get through many adventures and difficulties. Darby is able to mature and solve the questions of her life as she moves through the paths of adventures and relationships. They solve the mysteries and questions that come up as Darby tries to understand the relationships of the past that involve her mother and her mother's family. You can't help but be taken in and want to know more as the book progresses. The more you learn, the more you want to know and there are always those mysterious questions that keep you wanting to read more of the books. On top of it being a great story, my mom says I am really building my vocabulary by reading more and more of this series. I really like the way Ms. Farley describes every scene. You can with all your senses feel where you are at as she describes the surroundings and setting of each adventure. I like the word pictures she paints, because I can more easily see the places in my mind as I read. Of all the books I have had to read in school and on my own, this series has drawn me in the most and I want to keep reading more and more. I hope Ms. Farley never stops! Thank you for a great book and a great series! Andrea October 12, 2008 | | Good Start I was expecting to not like the wild horse island series. It just didnt
look that good. But it was very good. It was nice that you here from Sam in this book. It was exciting and fun. I like how Hoku (the phantom's sister) isn't just perfect by the end of the book. A really great book.
I think the rest of the series will be even better. September 04, 2008 | | Create Your Own Review Kaylee L. review to Phantom Stallion by Terri Farley, March, 2008.
Phantom Stallion is about a girl, Sam, who returns to her house in the country after a few years of being in the city after her fatal fall off her horse, Blackie. After Sam's accident, her dad had her move to the city with her aunt for a few years, when Sam returns to the ranch she is introduced to her new horse, Ace. Ace is a young horse and a little wild, it takes Sam some time to get used to him. A few weeks after Sam gets home from the city her family, a few close friends ( people that live near by also) and Sam all go on a cattle ride. A cattle ride is when the cowboys/girls ride together with tons of cattle and move them somewhere else. On the trip, Sam thinks she sees her old horse, Blackie. During the night, Sam sneaks out and follows `Blackie'. She follows the horse to a valley of horses no one knows about, a week or two later, Sam returns home. Sam, her cousin and her dad all go up to this place that goes out and gets all the wild mustangs and takes them in to be adopted. Sam sees her horse Blackie there and tells her dad everything. They buy Blackie back a few weeks later. March 27, 2008 | | Courtesy of Teens Read Too Darby Carter is a horse girl - she's always had a fascination and love for them, even though she's never owned or ridden one. But after saving a wild filly from disaster, she adopts the horse and moves to Hawaii to live on her grandfather's ranch.
When she gets there, she's instantly in love with the pastures and horses that inhabit Io'lani Ranch. Excited for her own horse -- dubbed Hoku for the star emblazoned on her chest -- to arrive, she's surprised when the wild filly is a lot wilder than she remembered.
Darby is going to have to work hard with Hoku if she ever expects the horse to trust her. As unpredictable as the weather, Hoku is a horse to be wary of. But Darby has a strange connection to her, no matter how distant she may seem.
Horse lover or not, I think anyone can enjoy this book. The characters are so authentic and lifelike, it feels like I know them personally. I have no doubt that this will be an excellent series, and I'm dying to get my hands on the next book.
