pretty good?

this book was very easy to read and had really good tips on taking the tests -- especially the essay portion. :)

i got a 4, which was pretty good since i actually only started studying for the test two weeks before! the test isn't scary, trust me. just try not to procrastinate and cram at the last minute and you'd probably do good.

Student

Going into the AP World History Test i was very nervous. Our teacher was new to the AP World program, and we had only finished the last several chapters of our textbook (Howard Spodek's The World's History). Months of studying had been concluded with a mere week of review.

In preparation, i went overboard and ordered Barron's, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. I didn't even both with the other two, Princeton Review was easy to read and follow.

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to note that the AP World History test does not test on barebone facts (unlike the SAT II), rather covering themes and trends. This is precisely what the Princeton Review book does. Kaplan and Barron's made it hard to look at the general picture, instead focusing on dates and names over relations and ideas.

I breezed through the multiple choice, and finished with three lines to spare on the essay. I ended up with a 5 on the exam, and 790 on the SAT II.

Please note, the book is a study guide, not a textbook, and my preparation complemented two semesters of continual effort. However, it was a phenomenally helpful review tool, and i strongly recommend it for any student hoping to succeed on the AP Test.

Best Review Book on the Market

Last May, my daughtor took the AP World History Exam. Before taking the exam, she looked for weeks on which review book to buy. She was recomended The Princeton Review's.
She claims that this review book is the sole reason for her 5 on the exam, and recomends it to everyone preparing for it.

Not Detailed. Very Conceptual

It depends on what type of review you are looking for. If you have forgotten all the facts from the earlier part of the history course and want to actually re-study, get the Barron's. Barron's will tell you all the details and facts so you don't have to reread the whole textbook. Personally, I recommend the Barron's because by AP time in May, most students do not remember even half of the material. However, if you want do get a general feel of world history and want easy reading, I guess princeton is the right way to go. But I am warning you...this is only for students who are already pretty familiar with the facts.

this book totally PWNSS!!

I took the AP World Exam last May, and I can say that this book was the primary attribute to the level 5 I received on that test. The reading is extremely student-friendly and the basics of the structure of the test, etc. are very well-explained. I just started reading through the entire review from ancient to present history about 2 weeks before the AP Exam and although I felt that I was slightly unprepared, I ended up acing the test. I don't know how good the other books are, but this book is certainly very good. The only drawback(and a major one that is) is that it doesnt have PRACTICE QUESTIONS AT ALLL!!!! WTF??????? Barron's and Kaplan both have practice quizzes at the end of each chapter, but this book doesn't so you REALLY have to pay attention when you read; otherwise, you're gonna forget all of it and say "uhh, what did I just read the past 2 hours?" still, highly recommended since I got a 5 using only this book and very little assistance from my AP World class in school and my teacher.
