EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Gaspard is off to summer camp to learn how to windsurf. There’s just one problem—he doesn’t know how to swim! After some lessons in the pool and a little help from his rubber float, Gaspard is ready to become a swimming champion. | Amazon.com Gaspard, the adorable black dog from Gaspard on Vacation, is on holiday again. This time he has convinced his parents to send him to windsurfing camp. On the train ride there, Gaspard sits between two returning campers. "Victor told us that he was a champion swimmer, and this summer he wanted to become a champion windsurfer. 'I'm a champion swimmer, too,' said Valerie. 'Me too,' I said." Unfortunately, that's not quite true. In fact, Gaspard can't swim at all! Lucky for him, camp counselor Mr. Duval is pretty understanding, and, with his shark-shaped flotation ring, Gaspard is soon the envy of all the kids (or so he thinks). Author Anne Gutman and illustrator Georg Hallensleben make the perfect team for this positively charming series about Parisian pooches Gaspard and Lisa (Lisa's Airplane Trip, Gaspard and Lisa at the Museum, etc.). The stories are simple; the artwork is exquisite and breathtakingly cute. (Ages 3 and older) --Emilie Coulter |

| Another Lovely Story This is another simple and lovely story about Gaspard the dog(?). This time, he goes to a summer camp at the seashore to learn to windsurf. As usual, the illustrations are beautiful and colorful. There is a subtle moral and a happy ending. These books always make me want to go to France! April 03, 2007 | | This is our favorite these days... Gaspard and Lisa have a friendship much like my son and his best friend (who happens to be a girl) that we cant help but to replace their names when telling the story. Gaspard goes to camp and is faced with an inability to swim like some other children. In the end Gaspard has a wonderful experience with other kids who cannot swim, learns to be a champion "kick board splasher" and ends up with a swim ring which makes him the envy of the whole camp. As always, this book is another wonderful addition to a sweet and well-done series. March 13, 2006 | |
