Product Description

Vast tonnages of solid-liquid mixtures are pumped every year in dredging operations, mining and waste-disposal applications. Most of these systems are centrifugal pumps, and the resolution of problems encountered in slurry pumping requires both detailed scientific knowledge and judgment derived from practical experience.

For many years the combination of up-to-date analysis and hands-on experimentation has been provided to interested engineers in a short course based at the GIW Hydraulic Laboratory. The lecturers in this course, who represent a broad background of international expertise, have prepared this widely-recognized text, Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition.

This unique text is logically divided into two sections: the first part of the book concentrates on the behaviors of various sorts of slurry flow, and the second part deals with the behavior of centrifugal pumps handling slurries, and with how pumps and pipelines interact as a system.

Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition also includes:

  • New material on both non-Newtonian flows and slurries of granular particles.
  • New information on pump wear, solids effect, and system operation.
  • Updated and completely new material on pump selection and environmental aspects
  • Worked examples and case studies that stress practical applications

Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition, will be of interest to all engineers and technologists involved in the large-scale transportation of slurries.

Got the wrong book
They show the third edition in the illustration, but for some very strange and stupid reason they offer the second edition, which is not that good.

Genius for only $139
See, this is what I mean when I complain that there really is only one person who can be counted on to revolutionize the way we transport slurry. Really, K.C. Wilson is a genius!!! GENIUS!!! GeNiUs!!! I can't say it enough.

Who would ever have thunk that you could push slurry around using centrifugal pumps. George Bush has mislead the American public and slurry handlers for years, and now we know better.

I have only one complaint - this really shouldn't be in paperback at all. Get the hardcover edition - you'll be turning to this volume three, four, even five times a day.

And be sure to read every page, because when your friends find out you possess this knowledge, they will be all over you like white on rice. You'll then need to know everything there is to know about hooking up those centrifugal pumps to transport all the slurry they will be creating.

Geez, where was this enlightened, refreshing, essential tomb when I needed it most?

Pump It Up!
Can there be any sweeter sound than the roar of the centrifugal pump? Whether it's being used to transport slurry, oil or just plain old water, the centrifugal pump is the undisputed king of fluid transportation mechanisms. I could happily spend all day staring at pictures of centrifugal pumps, playing a selction of my homemade centrifugal-pump sound sampler tapes and singing along with little made-up ditties, the lyrics of which outline the many advantages of centrifugal pumps as opposed to other, inferior pumps. Heck, I could spend an entire week like that. And if I had a wife who even took the time to try and understand me, she wouldn't dream of intruding on my contemplation with her constant interruptions, threats of divorce and quiet sobbing. She certainly wouldn't stand in the doorway with her suitcase shouting, 'What are you doing to this family? What are you doing to us?' Thank goodness the sound of centrifugal pumps is so loud, otherwise it might have been drowned out by the baby's screaming. Ch-chung. Ch-chung. Ch-chung. Ch-chung. Ch-chung. So reassuring. So reliable. Oh Karen, why couldn't you be more like a centrifugal pump? We could really have had something.
