Product Description "This British import pays joyful homage to the world of the Impressionists. When Katie and her grandmother visit an art museum to celebrate the elder's birthday, the girl wanders into a gallery where she admires Claude Monet's The Luncheon.... With a blink of her eyes, Katie is magically transported into the painting... Lovely watercolors emulate the style of the Impressionists... Not only does this delightful fantasy succeed as art education, but it's a charming story as well." --School Library Journal

The Katie books are a magnificant way to introduce art... I have been using the Katie books for the last couple of weeks with my preschool daughter. She enjoys the books and loves to make up stories and ask multitudes of questions about all of the painting characters. We have been really pleased with the Katie books as our "art appreciation" curriculum. The way that the people in the paintings come to life helps her to think more deeply about what the people are doing and what the artist is trying to capture. August 17, 2008
Wonderful introduction to the art world My mother bought this book for my daughter (4 years old) at the Tate Gallery in London. My daughter absolutely loves this book and for the past 6 months we have read it probably close to 100 times. It is a wonderful introduction to impressionist painters and their paintings. Although I grew up in Europe, my daughter is growing up in Asia and doesn't have much of a chance to see such famous paintings. When we went back to Europe to visit my parents, she quickly recognized Monet's paintings at a museum we visited. This books is a great idea to introduce children to the classic world of art. I just ordered 2 more from this series. June 06, 2008
Great Book! This was a very nice book to use as an introduction to art appreciation with a Pre-Kindergarten class. Wonderful story and it was easy for the children in our school to relate to. May 05, 2008

Katie Meets the Impressionists James Mayhew set the bar high with this adventurous and educational story. I cannot think of a better way to encourage children to explore impressionism. Our daughter was just 3.5 when we first fell in love with Katie. We have since purchased the series of Katie books and enjoy sharing them with other children. September 11, 2005
