CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 24 reviews)
| Great organic lab book This book covers basic laboratory procedures as well as explaining some of the instruments used in an organic chemistry lab. The topics covered include basic safety, how to keep a notebook, how to use handbooks, glassware, microscale glassware, syringes, drying agents, various experiments, LOTS of chromatography, NMR and a few other choice topics that will come in handy in lab. What I really like about Zubrick is his conversational tone along with a great sense of humor, there are many times you will truly laugh out loud when reading. This is a great book for those in a general organic lab/those with no prior organic lab experience.
Feel free to pick up an older edition of this book, since there aren't many changes between the newer editions.
January 02, 2009 | | I guess it could be worse I found this guide not as helpful as it could have been. It is still very wordy and too sarcastic. Every week I do my class reading with Zubrick telling me how dumb I would be if I did this. I'm not sure that counts as witty. November 04, 2008 | | Great Guide This book is the definitive guide to organic chemistry, whether you're a student or graduate, everything is in here! I bought is as a required book for Organic Lab I, but I recommend it as a reference for any chemist. February 10, 2008 | | A fantastic little book for students enrolled in organic chem. This small book was a requirement in my organic chemistry lab last year. Unfortunately, I think I'm the only one who actually read it. Had others cracked the binding a few times I imagine there would have been fewer exploding flasks and spilled beakers. This awesome little text explains (with humor) the best ways to set up apparatus for experiments, to avoid explosions, and to get in and out of the lab quickly with as few mistakes as possible. I'm happy to report that I never lost any glassware to an explosion, though I did lose a couple pieces to carelessness. Zubrick also covers basic distillation, separation, washing, and extraction techniques, as well as briefly covering spectroscopy. A very simple and helpful book for ochem undergrads. January 05, 2007 | | Can't take Ochem lab w/o it! This is a phenomenal book in which Mr. Zubrick brings down the complexities involved in Organic Chemistry Lab into terms that undergraduates can understand. Also, in something I've never seen done before, he adds humor to his writing. I actually enjoy reading this book, and get more out of it then any other lab text I've ever read. If you take Organic Chemistry Lab without it, you're doing yourself a pretty big diservice. September 12, 2006 | |
