EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Reprinted by the John Charnley Trust, the original text having been out of print for many years, this beautifully presented book deals very simply and scientifically with most of the difficult fractures an orthopaedic surgeon is likely to meet in his/her practice. Despite the fact that the original text was published in 1950, the basic principles espoused in the book still apply today, and it remains one of the most concise and complete books on closed fracture treatment ever written. This core textbook has been basic reference for orthopaedic surgeons for half a century. It describes the elementary mechanics of reduction and immobilisation and shows how the commonest injuries can be managed by proven methods based on these general principles. It is a must for anyone embarking on a career in orthopaedics and is a classic text that all orthopaedic trainees and consultants should have on their shelves. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 3 reviews)
| Out of date Although it is a classic, it's a shame it doesn't have a thorough revision, which makes it look awkward, old-fashioned and less profitable than I thought. August 20, 2008 | | Essential knowledge for fracture management Despite the numerous techno developments in the orthopedic field, many if not most e fractures can still be treated closed thus minimizing complications and potential litigation from surgery gone wrong. Furthermore, with hospital costs skyrocketing (hospital-based outpatient surgery begins at $4000.00 in many locations) your patient will be happy with the minimal costs for closed reduction. This book is essential for all orthopedic residents and should be a fundamental text in all ortho libraries. August 28, 2006 | | Every orthopedic surgeon or orthopedics/traumatology resident should read this book This book is a valuable source of scientific information concerning the closed treatment of fractures. Sir John Charnley wrote a consistent text guided by biological, biomechanical and practical concepts.
The core of the text is focused on the elements involved with the closed treatment of fractures, backgrounded by the vast experience and scientific knowledge of the author.
Despite the fact that this book was first published in 1950, the high quality of information provided in this publication still apply today. Undoubtly, this book must be among other recent orthopedic publications as a reliable source of non-operative fracture care information.
I believe that every orthopedic surgeon or orthopedics/traumatology resident should read this book. September 05, 2005 | |
