CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 443 reviews)

twisted, horrifying, disgusting, revolting, perverted, vomit-inducing, etc.
this is the worst book i've ever read, along with the house on mango street. i had to read this the summer before ninth grade. yes, ninth! i was THIRTEEN and i had to submerge myself in this perverted sick unhealthy (most likely drug-induced) for lack of a better word, BOOK. i was horrified, disgusted, revolted, terrified, and it was NOT a pleasant read. i couldn't even finish it. i stopped after about 100 pages, and akwardly had to tell my mom that i didn't want to finish it. she read it and agrees with me. why this is considered a "CLASSIC" is beyond me. it sounds like alice walker is on crack and wrote down the first twisted, sick, perverted scence she could think of. i would NEVER recommend this book, especially for schools.

GREAT BOOK
I have now read this book twice, once as a high school student and then again for one of my college classes. I love this book. Each time I read it I get something new out of it. I think I is a book that once old enough everyone should give it a shot. The only bad thing is that this is a book that you either love of hate..there is no happy middle. I loved it and will no doubt read it again!

Color Purple
Color purple was a good book to read. Though there were moments when author is taken too much steps to describe the bad life of black people at that time. Full of feelings, emotions and motivations, this book had changed my views in many points. Thanks to it I get new visions of the life people at that time. But still, it seems to me that main hero of the novel Celie is too much absorbed in her own world. Her way of living, sometimes, makes me crazy. I ask myself: "Is she cannot do anything to leave this place?" Of course, she left in the end but most of her life had passed. She lost too much for the time being with MR. The book overall is not bad. I easily read it. There were moments when I felt too bad for Celie.I stopped reading but began again after a while. It was too amazing to stop it after beginning. It has interest format of letters. Every letter represents news and some details. The fact that the book full of short letters makes the reading interesting.
I enjoyed the book and strongly advise to read it.

A Hard Fought Journey
The Color Purple is about a young girl named Celie who has many hardships in her life. She goes on a spirital journey to help her find herself and a place in the world. She must overcome an abusive relationship and find her own sexuality. This book helped me realize things about human nature and also myself that I never knew were there. The emotion that is protrayed by each character, especially Celie, will leave you speechless. Definitely one of the best books I have ever read.
