Product Description
This is a process and application guidebook that encompasses the latest state of the art of commercial membrane desalination technology. This unique book provides a thorough overview and understanding of the RO, NF, and hybrid system, all with a detailed discussion on how to apply, design and operate potable systems and how to evaluate project economics using innovative membrane technologies. A must-read for all project engineers, plant designers, planners, utility directors, and operation managers, involved in municipal and industrial membrane projects. Scientists and academics interested in membrane desalination will find in this guidebook an insight into latest trends in commercial membrane desalination technologies for potable water applications. A step by step approach to design, operation and cost evaluation of membrane systems is explained in simple practical terms, all backed up by sample process calculations and case studies. The following major subjects are covered: Principles of membrane separation, RO/NF system configurations and system design parameters, Application of RO and nanofiltration technology in wastewater reclamation plants, Cost estimation and planning process of membrane desalination projects, Concentrate disposal, Hybrid systems. The contributors to the book are well known professionals in the desalination field with extensive involvement in research and development of membrane products and desalination processes. The book contents reflect their R&D work and experience in design, procurement and operation of numerous membrane systems

CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 4 reviews)

Best Desalination Practice BOOK
As a desalination researcher, lecturer and conference organizer, I am familiar with over a dozen books treating membrane based desalination technology. Having acquired the recently published book authored by Wilf et al, I found that this is by far the best if not the only available monograph on the practical aspects involved in planning, designing, operating and managing desalination plants. The unique aspect of this book is that it reflects the wide industrial experience of the authors, gathered through numerous projects they undertook within the framework of major desalination enterprises. Among the virtues of this book are that it provides in an easily accessible form a reliable compilation of hard to find information such as alternative design approaches, cost evaluation methods, concentrate disposal management and fouling control issues, supported by real life examples. In my view, this book is a must for desalination planners and design engineers and for desalination researchers seeking to familiarize themselves with major bottlenecks awaiting R&D investigations.

An excellent book for professionals and students in desalination field
The Guidebook to Membrane Desalination Technology : Reverse Osmosis, Nanofiltration and Hybrid Systems Process, Design, Applications and Economics
It is an excellent book on membrane desalination processes that I would like to recommend to professionals and students in this field. It has a very nice covergae of the principles and theories of the process that can prepare readers to understand the essence of process design. However, the thing I like most of the book is that it contains so many examples from the real world that cover every aspect of practical design of membrane process for water desalination. They will give you the sense on what are issues particularly concerned in membrane process design and how to deal with them. It is truely a valuable piece of work from the experts who know the process the best.

$200 does not buy you an index
A $200 professional book with no index. The writing is poorly edited, and at times the book reads like a series of glorified powerpoints.
