EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Extensively revised and updated, this new edition, as in previous editions, emphasizes the point that the most important part of learning how to interpret unknown mass spectra is to practice interpreting mass spectra. The book aims at correlating ion dissociation mecanisms on a much broader scale, with the emphasis on basic attributes such as ionization energies, proton affinities and bond dissociation energies. The authors also tried to show how these mechanisms are applicable to the unimolecular dissociations of ions formed by any ionization method, including the new methods for obtaining mass spectra of large molecules. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 7 reviews)
| Quite handy This little red book is certainly worth having around, especially if your just begining to analyze mass spec. There are lots of examples and problems to sharpen your skills. August 31, 2007 | | Does the Job Well... If you need a book on Interpreting your mass spectra this is it. Mainly concentrates on electron impact spectra but applicable to other methods. Gets quite involved though, we really only touched the first 4 chapters in any detail in my grad class. It is reasonable easy to read but quite dense, there is more information here than the page count might indicate. May 13, 2007 | | mclafferty's mass spec book Pretty good, good examples, explanations of problems are quite good. In chapter reading sometimes hard to follow. Concise. A must read for anyone learning mass spec February 17, 2006 | | Great introduction to the basics This book covers the basics of mass spectra, and how to interpret them by hand. While it doesn't reallly go into modern developments, its certainly a great way to get started thinking about mass spectroscopy in general. Probably most useful for an undergras course in spectroscopy, which is where I first came across it. The nice thing is it has lots of exercises for the reader that are actually alot of fun. Does not, unfortunately, address protein identification and sequencing by mass spec at al, so while I recommend this book as a starting point, a biologically oriented reader would best use this book in conjunction with a more protein-specific reference. February 20, 2002 | | Beginners text A good introduction to classical mass spectrometry though most of the recent developments in the field are not covered. Most suitable for undergraduates. This edition corrects some of the organizational blunders in earlier forms ; previously a chapter on "Other Ionization Techniques" included sections on negative ions and icrs (?). August 19, 2000 | |
