EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description
An extraordinary, powerful connection exists between feeling and feeding that, if damaged, may lead to one relying on food for emotional support, rather than seeking authentic happiness. This unique workbook takes on the seven emotions that plague problem eaters — guilt, shame, helplessness, anxiety, disappointment, confusion, and loneliness — and shows readers how to embrace and learn from their feelings. Written with honesty and humor, the book explains how to identify and label a specific emotion, the function of that emotion, and why the emotion drives food and eating problems. Each chapter has two sets of exercises: experiential exercises that relate to emotions and eating, and questionnaires that provoke thinking about and understanding feelings and their purpose. Supplemental pages help readers identify emotions and chart emotional development. The final part of the workbook focuses on strategies for disconnecting feeling from food, discovering emotional triggers, and using one’s feelings to get what one wants out of life. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 17 reviews)
| Workbook with a Support Group Karen's no-nonsense workbook has given me a vehicle with which to explore my emotions -- pen in hand. So much has surfaced for me which at times can lead to free-floating anxiety. But working this workbook and meeting via phone with a small group (3 of us on conference call) twice a month gives me time to write, feel and discuss issues that arise. I am fortunate to have Karen as my face-to-face therapist as well! Get a copy of this workbook; it will help you get in touch with your emotions and triggers and lead you to healthier options. August 25, 2008 | | I finally understand my disordered eating!
This book is amazing. I've searched for a book like this for years. I have food issues, but since I don't overeat or under eat, I've had a difficult time finding resources for my issues. Other food psychology books and therapy haven't helped me. But finally, using this workbook showed me why I focus on food. Now that I know my triggers, I can disassociate those triggers from food. I am grateful for this book! May 17, 2008 | | good workbook I am only through the first few chapters, but it seems to be pretty good.
it is pretty user friendly and walks you through step by step. March 31, 2008 | | Excellent Im very pleased that Amazon has kept it's word as too sending the product so fast like they did. Thank you so much.
Also the workbook is what I'm looking for. March 25, 2008 | | Amazing workbook-great for everyone Cant fully express how much this workbook helped my daughter (and me!). From an ED point of view, it's great: doesn't allow her to "feed" into ED behaviors. It's great at getting in touch with feelings surrounding food, and daughter has had more success after working through this book than any other workbook she's completed (and she's done a lot!) Most of all, the exercises are helpful for eds and non-eds, I've noticed a change in both of our attitudes toward food for the better. March 07, 2008 | |
