EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Called by God to reach the Ninevehites, Jonah runs the other way, triggering a cosmic dilemma: what does God do with a wayward prophet? In four short chapters, God proves His greatness and graciousness by redirecting, restoring, and then using Jonah to spark an evangelistic fire never before seen in history, as an entire city turns to God. Jonah: Responding to God in all the Right Ways will enrich your time with God, help you understand the Twin Peaks of his character, lead you in a daily response to His greatness, and motivate you to want to serve Him more fully. In these pages you will learn: How God disciplines His children How fear can be turned to faith How to pray when in deep distress How to keep a tender heart toward God How to become a great question-asker How God gives second chances How to memorize Scripture How God feels about the least loveable people How God teaches His servants How to respond to God's greatness and grace. Jonah is designed as a four-week spiritual experience that can be used in three ways: Individually, with four weeks of daily readings With a small group, using the weekly discussion guides In a church-wide campaign, accompanied with web-accessible sermons. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 4 reviews)
| Insightful, practical, theological In this short little book Hal has accomplished a number of things.
First of all, he explains the book of Jonah remarkably well. Hardly one of the daily readings goes by without a theological insight that is difficult to catch with a simple reading of the text. I finished each chapter understanding the book of Jonah far better than I did when I started.
Second, he does as excellent job of making the book of Jonah practical. He addresses common issues that bring many of us down from frustration with God, to anger, to feelings of failure, to our inability to ask good questions. Additionally, he takes opportunities to provide instruction on important spiritual disciples (I found his section on scripture memory to be especially helpful). While much of the text provides interesting food for thought, it is clear that Hal isn't willing to allow the book to simply be that. He ends each day's reading with a challenge to respond in some way (often a particular way) to the greatness and grace of God that the book of Jonah shows us. Rather than simply being a theological treatise, this is a book that challenges us to live better, and I appreciated that challenge.
Third, just as Hal says that the book of Jonah is about God, so too this book isn't about Jonah, or a about a Sunday school Bible story. It is quite clearly about a great and gracious God. Through the pages of this book I found myself impressed again at who God is and how he interacts with his people.
The book is divided up into 20 daily readings, and has excellent discussion questions at the end. New Christians and mature believers alike will benefit from the encouraging, challenging, heart warming teaching this book provides. I especially recommend it for small group study, as it is set up to work well in a small group environment. April 22, 2008 | | Jonah Explained Jonah: Responding to God in all the Right Ways by Hal Seed really cleared up ALOT of misconceptions about this very short book of the bible. Besides learning that there is NO WHALE in the book of Jonah, the detailed background into the socio-ecomomic issues of that time period helped explain why Jonah ran away and why he so stubbornly refused to obey God and why he remained angry even after obeying. February 25, 2008 | | Jonah is Authentic and Readable Jonah offers great insight and application in a very authentic format. It allows the reader to see into the life of Jonah, his experiences, and his lessons, while creating a dialogue about how those lessons intersect our lives. The short chapter, daily reading makes it easy to digest. This is a definite must read. February 11, 2008 | | Why You Should Read This Book Dear Friend,
Of all the Old Testament prophets, Jonah may be the most succinct and dynamic. His eight-word sermon (Jonah 3:4) results in what may have been the greatest revival in all of history.
You will want to read this book if you want:
- to learn about the book and backstory of Jonah.
- to learn more about the greatness and grace of God.
- to understand how God teaches and corrects His servants.
- to know how to keep a tender heart towards God.
- to know how to pray when in deep distress.
- to know how to turn fear into faith.
- to know how to memorize Scripture effectively.
- to know how to become a great question-asker.
- new and positive ways to respond to God.
This book is a quick, easy-to-read volume that will open your mind to a world of biblical insights from Jonah and open your heart more deeply to God. I hope you enjoy every word of it.
Sincerely,
Hal Seed February 11, 2008 | |
