EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
This book has been expertly written and illustrated for patients with brain aneurysms and their families and for physicians and paramedical professionals interested in learning more about this field. The book contains detailed information about the investigation and screening of brain aneurysms and critical chapters related to their treatment. A comprehensive section on coma caused by ruptured brain aneurysms discusses the difficult choices facing both families and physicians during the management of critically ill aneurysm and brain hemorrhage patients. The book explains the process of informed consent for the investigation and treatment of brain aneurysms and the rationale for the choices given and decisions made. The risks and benefits of various procedures encountered by brain aneurysm patients and how the procedures are performed are described in detail. Responses to frequently asked questions regarding "clipping versus coiling" aneurysms are provided, as are step-by-step details of the relevant open surgical and endovascular procedures. An in-depth chapter devoted to rehabilitation and recovery after treatment presents information on what patients can expect and need to be aware of during this process. Chapters also cover treatment-related complications, wound issues, follow-up after coiling or clipping, and recurrent or persistent brain aneurysms after treatment. Finally, detailed "case histories" of persons with unruptured and ruptured brain aneurysms personalize the experience of having an aneurysm. Being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and undergoing treatment are some of the most significant events patients and their families are likely to experience. This practical book is a must-read for such persons.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 3 reviews)

A Survivor's Opinion
Upon returning home from the hospital after suffering a ruptured aneurysm (SAH) in 2007, I was naturally curious how I survived a medical event that causes death or at least irreversible medical challenges for so many people. I read this book within the first couple of months during convalescence. This book helped me understand the hundreds of questions I had about what caused my aneurysm, what actually happened in my brain arteries to cause the rupture, what medical procedures work most successfully for the different types of aneurysms, what complications to expect, and why the drugs I had to take were so important. Now, knowing that cigarette smoke can cause SAHs, I will never, ever smoke again. It is very hard to find information on the internet and in the bookstore on the SAH topic, so I was sincerely relieved to have found this book to help me through this trying time. My husband read it before I read it, and our reading it has helped us communicate with all the various doctors and medical staff therefore expediting the healing process. This book is very easy to read, engaging, and understandable. The authors did a wonderful job and should be commended for their ability to make something as complicated as brain surgery so simple for others to absorb.

Dr. Khurana combines medical information that is accurate and up-to-date with the presentation of case studies in a compassionate manner. Written with simple language and clear definitions, the book is the perfect blend of technical and humanistic information that makes it a must read for both patients and everyone close to them.
