Product Description
Though an estimated eight in ten women in America will be diagnosed with fibroids during their lifetime, it remains one of the most ambiguous conditions a woman can have. In the tradition of the other titles in the First Year series, The First Year—Fibroids uses a unique approach, guiding readers through practical and straightforward steps for the first seven days following diagnosis, then the next three weeks of their first month, and finally the next eleven months of their first year. Throughout, author Johanna Skilling provides answers and advice that will help women newly diagnosed with fibroids come to terms with their condition and the lifestyle changes that accompany it. Skilling provides vital information about the different types of fibroids, treatment options, dietary choices, holistic alternatives, and much more. The First Year—Fibroids will be a wise and educational resource for every woman who wants to take an active role in the management of her fibroids.

You've just been diagnosed: start here
You've just been told you have fibroids, whether it be a visit to the ER or to your ob/gyn doc, and your tests reveal fibroids, you've never heard of it and you're freaking...don't freak, read! This book gives you an in depth view from A to Z about being diagnosed, to monitoring your symptoms, to exploring all your options, which by the way, not everyone who has fibroids will have to have surgery...this is a personal journey of the first year from a woman who went through it...although she did end up having surgery, not all women do! I highly recommend also reading Healing Fibroids: A Doctor's Guide to a Natural Cure...these two books help you to take control over what you can, from eating, exercising and herbal teas, to surgery options(which having a hysterectomy is the LAST option, not first) and inform you of important information during a scary and stressful situation...

Read this book!
This book is from a patient's point of view and covers options from "ignore it" to "remove your plumbing" and everything in between. I've done quite a lot of research and this book did such a good job in considering what I am looking for in my life (planning on kids/no kids) as well as what I might be feeling about this very personal issue. I highly recommend it.
