EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Building on the work pioneered by his father, Dr. Gerald Jampolsky, the author shows how Attitudinal Healing will give readers the happiness they seek without changing the amount in one's bank account, spouse, job, status, or religion. The only thing readers need to change is that over which they have complete control--their attitude. As Jampolsky writes, nothing needs to change in your life situation or the world in order for you to have peace of mind.
In an increasingly complex world, readers need to remind themselves of what is most precious. Smile for No Good Reason offers simple, practical ways to be happy by approaching life with a different attitude. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 6 reviews)
| At a time of desperation I found inner peace This summer I found myself lost in dispare after losing several close relatives and battling my own personal illnesses. I began a slippery slope of questioning the purpose and point of life. I was in the deepest depression I had ever felt. It took all of my energy to go to work until one day I just completely snapped.
One of my dearest friends, who I knew would relate to my situation, sent a care package my way with this book enclosed. At first I wasn't sure if I would read the book, but since the chapters were short and brief it was easy to read a bit at a time. I was able to absorb each chapter at night and really think about how I could adjust my way of thinking and attitudes in order to find true happiness.
The most important chapters for me were the chapters that dealt with the past and forgiveness. I learned that I must let go of the past and forgive those who have done me wrong or else I will suffer in pain and never enjoy happiness. It seems like such an easy concept, but it takes time and you must forgive yourself first. I had to learn this concept first and foremost as I am my most harsh critic. Smile For No Good Reason will take you on a journey of finding true inner peace and happiness. You will rediscover the meaning of unconditional love for oneself and others. You will learn how to how to love--you may think you know, but you will be surprised at how we utilize fear and manipulation tactics to control the ones we love.
I am now in the process of supporting a friend who is going through some rough times and I am now passing on the book that I tribute to saving my life and giving me perspective on how to love myself all over again. I hope my friend will discover why we all love her too!
This is the type of book that you will read and think of that special person in your life that desperately needs more love and happiness in their life--their suffering must end...life is too short! "Smile: For No Good Reason" is highly recommended to all self-help shelves and for anyone who wants a better outlook on the grim world we live in. May 05, 2008 | | Excellent Book! A must read for anyone and everyone. We all need to take time to appreciate life and all it has to offer. This book belongs on every coffee table and in every waiting room where people take a minute to slow down, reflect and smile... May 01, 2008 | | Smile For No Good Reason Attitudinal Healing is a philosophy based on the idea that "nothing needs to change in your life situation or the world in order for you to have peace of mind." In Smile For No Good Reason, Lee L. Jampolsky, Ph.D., psychologist, author, and consultant, offers simple and practical advice for creating happiness without doing anything except changing how we look at life. The book is divided into twelve sections, one for each of the principles of Attitudinal Healing. Within each section are several vignettes illustrating how the principles can be applied in everyday life. Most vignettes are only a page, making them easy to read and understand. The principles are based on the ideas that love and fear are the only two emotions, that the only problem is a feeling of separation, and that the solution is discovering that the essence of your being is love. Each section of the book is filled with stories and sayings that illustrate how to trade in fear for love. Overcoming separation and discovering love requires changing fear-based attitudes, such as anger and guilt. Dr. Jampolsky says that "your attitude in solving any problem is far more important than the particular action you might take." He reminds us that the key is recognizing that "you're not upset because of what occurred, you are upset because of how you perceive the situation." He offers a huge variety of suggestions for changing perceptions and creating happiness. He says we can start with a simple action like smiling, even if we don't think we have anything to smile about. Just that one little act will make a huge difference in how we look at our problems and how we interact with others. And when others smile back, suddenly we do have something to be happy about. Dr. Jampolsky also emphasizes that healing comes from letting go of old hurts and resentments. Smile For No Good Reason "presents clear and concise ways-that you can begin right now-to begin living a happier and more meaningful life. You will learn how to feel more peaceful and be more productive by replacing the automatic ways you react from fear with new perceptions of yourself and the world." It's a book you can pick up often and find guidance, no matter which page you open it to. May 30, 2003 | | Read this book and you can't help but smile This book is one that you keep even if you bought it as a gift for another.
