EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description In a bold, reasoned, and meticulously researched knowledge leap, Cognitive Evolution erases the demarcation between life and intelligent life, deciphers the concepts of intelligence and cognition, and moves our kind to the precipices of digitizing the anatomical gnome of reason. Cognitive Evolution suggests that the high order mental behaviors of Homo sapiens are rooted in the same biology as the moth's attraction to light, worker bees' foreknowledge of their assignments, ants' knowledge of the mechanics to execute the architectural design of an ant hill, or a female cat's instinct to open the umbilical sack after giving birth. Author Alice Travis ponders, "If we begin with what we accept to be intelligent life, at what point does life become non-intelligent?" It was the recognition that there is no such point that gave birth to Cognitive Evolution, and its groundbreaking interpretation of intelligence. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 2 reviews)
| Provocative and Challenging Cognitive Evolution is an important book. It is not an easy read; but, if this theory is correct and is applied, lagging educational systems and stagnant communities across the globe can be revolutionized within a decade.
There are a number of controversial conclusions about the nature of intelligence in the book. Its premise, however, that all Homo sapiens theoretically inherit the same brain capacities and that human equality explains unequal human demonstrations is cerebrally stretching. This is a must read.
January 25, 2008 | | Compelling I cannot imagine anyone interested in the workings of the human brain not finding this book compelling. This non fiction book goes where no mind/brain book that I have read has gone before. The theory of Cognitive Evolution proposes that in the process of inventing itself, the brain engineered the creation of Homo sapiens. From a first reading the implication is that this process can be traced back to g loaded big bang particles. I plan to reread this book during my holiday vacation.
I have recommended it to a number of my colleagues and intend to give it to several friends as Hanukah and Christmas presents.
