EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description A comprehensive yet concise review of relevant topics and examination strategies needed to pass the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) Part II (Oral) exam, complete with up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines on diagnosis and management in clinical neurology. The book follows the ABPN format, providing clinical case vignettes designed to allow the examinee to localize the plausible disease process, to indicate which investigations may help in establishing a diagnosis, to deduce treatment plans, and to make a prognosis, including patient and family counseling. The emergency cases test the ability to think critically when faced with a neurological emergency, putting a premium on resuscitation, patient safety, and rapid high-yield investigations. The general neurology cases reflect the breadth of disorders experienced in hospital and outpatient settings. The author's suggested study regimen takes into account the difficulties of allotting time to prepare while in post-residency training or practice. Comprehensive and case-based, Neurology Oral Boards Review: A Concise and Systematic Approach to Clinical Practice provides a structured approach to clinical problem solving in neurology, as well as an effective and time-efficient method to master the factual material needed to successfully complete the Neurology Oral Boards. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 4 reviews)
| A Neurologist friend! A concise and readable book for all those who need to pass exams, gain knowledge and test their own prowness!Recommended for the Advance Masters of Medicine(Neurology)University Sains Malaysia candidates and other neurology residents in the world. August 22, 2008 | | Should be all you need to pass. This book and a few weeks of review should be all you need to pass the oral boards. The author uses the first chapter to review the format of the boards (not exactly accurate, but close enough). The next section is a decent review of common emergency vignettes for adults and peds. The third and final section is non-emergency vignettes divided by category. Each vignette is presented in a style similar to the way your oral boards presentation should proceed: case presentation, summary, localization, investigation, therapy, and counselling.
The author relies very heavily on the VITAMINS approach to differential diagnosis, which is probably NOT what your board examiners are looking for. But, it's a good start. February 26, 2008 | | Really "An excellent first step" Highly doubtful about my chances, 6 weeks before the board I started this book. In the limited hours that I had, I surprisingly was done with this book in 2 weeks and started feeling more confident about my chances. Then I revised a few topics from other books and revised this book again. .. and I passed!
July 09, 2007 | | I passed! Need I say more? This book covers the format of the boards and covers many of the same topics that were asked of me. It defused much of my anxiety. Of all the books I used for the Oral boards, this one was the most helpful. Well organized, easy to read in small doses for those who can only spare a few minutes a day to study, and few typos.
