When Your Elderly Parents Need Help
Great book with information that helped us realize what was going on with our parents and what approach we needed to take to help. Extremely good information.

Good info, just not enough of it!
This book has a lot of good information about issues to consider. It focuses more on the parent who needs serious, around-the-clock care than on one who only needs a little help. However, it has all sorts of checklists and points to consider that can be helpful in organizing what needs to be done.

My main problem with this book is that it is very good at raising concerns and pointing out problems, but offers very few solutions. A typical passage says that mothers will often refuse help with cooking, even when they are no longer willing or able to prepare nutritious meals for themself. However, the book does not offer any suggestions about how to solve this dilemma.

The other issue I had with this book is that it is very poorly edited. There are very basic spelling and punctuation mistakes throughout, which can make it a bit tedious to read in spots.

Also, this books has a lot of information specific to the state of California. That's great if your parent lives in CA, but less helpful to the rest of the country.

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift?
Don't wait! Buy this book NOW before you actually need it. Send one to a friend with elderly parents. too. It can save a lot of headaches and worries. I was faced with the totally unexpected dilemma of caring for my boyfriend's 84 year old ill mother. There were so many questions that needed answering and so many options to consider. I was totally bewildered. A friend recommended Pitching In. The book is full of helpful ideas and provides a step-by-step approach to handling such a situation. It is important to have a plan for caring for the elderly before it becomes necessary. With this book and all of it's valuable information one can discuss all the options with his parents before it's too late. A REAL GODSEND!

ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
PITCHING IN by Sani Ross is an excellent and easy guide for anyone needing to address care of a parent. The format is clear and concise with Tips and Reality Checks and Examples to illustrate facts. It is easy to scan and can help you prepare to ask the right questions which is so often the key to getting accurate information. It is a good reference for the more recently relevant concerns about such things as Elder Law and Medicaid Planning. I highly recommend this book.
