Product Description
Referred to as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology" by The New York Times, this study examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys from 6,500 adults in more than 2,500 counties across China and Taiwan, and conclusively demonstrates the link between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these ailments as well as curbing obesity, this text calls into question the practices of many of the current dietary programs, such as the Atkins diet, that are widely popular in the West. The politics of nutrition and the impact of special interest groups in the creation and dissemination of public information are also discussed.

A Must Read Book on Nutrition & Cancer and Other Diseases
Before I review the book, a little history of me here:

When I was a chubby girl in college I tried many kinds of diet to lose weight, and one of them was a "healthier" form of Atkins diet, called the South Beach diet. I read from a Women's Health magazine that it's effective and nutritious. At the time, I did not have any knowledge of nutrition, and unfortunately I had followed the diet thinking that it's healthy. Of course, I gained weight soon after unable to keeping up with the diet and failed miserably. I was sick all the time also and didn't know why. I had many health problems and was on a variety of different prescription drugs that my doctor urged me to take.

Many years later, I decided to become a pure vegetarian not only because of health but because of realization of my diet's impact on the environment and animal welfare, thanks to several documentaries called Baraka & Earthlings. When I became a vegetarian I lost weight almost effortlessly, and as I gradually dropped dairy and egg products from my diet I lost even more weight - the weight that I had worked so hard to lose but failed to as a non-vegetarian! I am now healthier than ever, never get sick, and feel so much better overall, all without depending on unnecessary drugs and doctor visits.

Even so, after I read this important book - the largest research conducted on correlation between nutrition and health - I was extremely shocked at this fascinating study. Now, I cannot stop talking about the book with everyone that I care about. Everyone who is interested in their health effects of consuming animal products should read this very important book.

According to the study, cancer, heart diseases, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol - all of these modern diseases can be prevented and even reversed by whole food, plant-based diet! I am now a firm believer of this, as I watched my family members suffer greatly (i.e. cancer, osteoporosis, etc.) due to their animal-based diets. Everything became so clear to me. Now, my whole family follow a more plant-based diet than ever. My sister, my boyfriend, and even my mom - follow a vegetarian diet and have improved their health greatly.

Everything makes sense to me. There are so much misinformation out there regarding diet and health, that public can be easily confused about what and how one should eat, like I was.

As a vegan who was once a heavy meat-eater, I hope more people can realize the truth and obtain better health, as well as helping to restore our environment, and end unnecessary suffering of animals.

Outstading scientific reveiw of diet and nutrition
This book is a refreshing change from the glut of fad diet books. It is very readable, yet takes a serious and scientific look at what we eat and the resulting health problems. The core of the book is about a 20 year study, in China, sponsored by NIH and the governement of China. Be prepared to have a paradigm shift in your concepts of healthy eating.

Very, very interesting
I just completed The China Study and I feel it was a very interesting, informative read. It's kind of a scientific thriller as in what else will our good scientist T. Colin Campbell reveal?
The end of the book was the most interesting to me...how the establishment ignores easy, inexpensive ways to heal disease thru diet, how doctors who espouse nutritional therapy are rejected and how industry and government are intertwined and, as a result, the public is left ignorant on how they can easily and simply heal themselves. One thing to think about: I am sure many who read this book want nationalized health care. I am not sure that would be a good thing at the moment with a government that is unable to give us the information we need right NOW. It is addicted to costly procedures and drugs making everything more complex, painful and expensive. In fact, people are DYING from our conventional medicare...one of the biggest killers of Americans. Do we really want to hand over the reigns of our healthcare (and money) to a government that is unable to act in our own self-interest? If we did, our money would be wasted in furthering the pharmaceutical and medical industries at the expense of our health. I don't think it's a good idea unless it can be cleaned up and the motives clean. I'd rather give my healthcare dollars to people and institutions that espouse the truth...something the government is incapable of.

the china study
I am a practicing optometrist in O'Fallon missouri and I work with alot of patients of all different classes. Many of them are way overweight and in poor health at an early age (50's-60's and I just know that the reason is because of poor eating habits and lack of exercise. The China Study really helps to emphasize the importance of good everyday eating and what the consequenses will be if one does not follow a good everyday diet. I'm lucky enough to enjoy good health everyday and I hope I can pass on to my patients information about this book to make a better world.

China Study review
This is a well written, easy to understand book, full of information that i believe everyone should have been taught as children. I think schools should incorporate this way of eating for our children. I am definatly changing my views and habits.

shocking and scary what we didnt know all these years. It makes you think about what if : what if we all started eating this way long ago, how many people would not be so sick now?
