EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The Zone explains in detail the underlying science behind the Zone and why you want to be there. With more than 1,000,000 hard copies in print, The Zone has been translated into nine languages and was the #1 best-selling nutrition/health book in 1996. This revolutionary approach to diet is a lifelong health program designed to bring the body into total balance. Food is not the enemy here, but rather a catalyst--the essential ingredient needed to allow the body to function at its absolute and efficient peak. This book prescribes easy-to-follow and nonrestrictive dietary guidelines based on maintaining a favorable ratio of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates--a balance that in turn stabilizes and maximizes the hormones that regulate our weight and height. The book supplies readers with charts, lists, and recipes designed to maintain a completely balanced diet. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.5 based on 3 reviews)
| Very informative Lotsa info and good stuff. Sometimes a bit 'scientific' and too deep for my interest, but very thorough.
I also recommend Mastering the Zone. October 22, 2007 | | best diet book out there I dropped 20 pounds in about two months. I never felt hungry or irritable and I almost always feel focussed and alert when I eat according to the guidelines. If you pay attention to everything you ingest and seriously follow the guidelines, then this will definitely work for you. It's not just about losing weight, it's about maximum performance potential. It's not a no carb diet, you actually eat more carbs than protein but you'll have to eat quality, complex carbs and limit your fat intake. It's the only book I've seen that presents every side of each element of the equation: what happens if you get too much protein, fat, carbs and what if you get too little of each. It's written in easy to understand English, with very basic calculations of exactly how much YOU should eat, according to your body fat, height, weight. I've never seen another diet that makes half as much sense as this one does. October 08, 2006 | | This book was a primer What I like most in this book is that
1- The book was the first to explain the importance of "eicosanoids"
2- The book was the first to recognize the contribution of Dr. Gerard Reaven to our understanding of the link excess of starch and health deterioration.
1- The term "eicosanoid" defines a class of active molecules we make from essential fatty acids. Although the explanation about eicosanoids the book offers has become obsolete, one should not forget that in 1995 (the year this book came out) only 44 articles had been published discussing the link diet and eicosanoid production. The idea was brand new. Since then more than 3,400 articles have greatly refined our knowledge.
2- Medical progress is incremental. Sometimes, however, pioneers make a big leap. Dr. Gerald Reaven is such a pioneer. In his initial 1988 lecture entitled "Role of Insulin Resistance in Human Disease". Dr. Reaven was the first to demonstrate that a condition considered a consequence of diabetes type II also exists in many people that are not (yet) diabetic. The condition is insulin overproduction and insulin resistance. It took more than a decade for Dr. Reaven to convince physicians that insulin resistance and insulin overproduction in non-diabetics are realities and a matter of health concern. Again, in 1995, this book was the only one to publish the genial ideas of a precursor ignored by Medicine. August 26, 2005 | |
