EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description
The present book combines three main aspects: five major mass extinctions; contributions on some other minor extinctions; and more importantly contributions on the current mass extinction. All three aspects are introduced through interesting studies of mass extinctions in diverse organisms ranging from small invertebrates to mammals and take account of the most admired subjects discussing mass extinctions in insects, mammals, fishes, ostracods and molluscs. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 1.0 based on 1 review)
| Don't even think of buying this poorly-done book A recent book with the title "Mass Extinction" sounds intriguing, but you will regret spending any money on this one. As a clue, here's the first sentence by the editor (who is also an author on most of the chapters): "Mass extinction is considered as the most subject matter in paleontology that received several debated input." Most of the chapters are very badly done or irrelevant (although a couple by other authors are excellent). You would think that the Permian mass extinctions, which were the greatest of all, would merit significant text, but they get only one and a half pages. That chapter, and it is not alone in this, actually cites Wikipedia and other general websites as its authoritative sources. How this book slipped through the editing system of a reputable publisher like Springer is beyond me, unless they simply count on libraries to buy it unseen. Save your money, and keep your blood pressure low, by avoiding this book.
