EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
This publication is directed towards all who deal with design, construction and maintenance of fiber optic cable plants. Furthermore, it provides basic information as an introduction to specialized technical literature. In order to make it easier to study the many specialized publications, the book contains a detailed glossary of technical terms. For this edition, the section on optical nonlinear effects has been enlarged and information on nonzero dispersion shifted fibers has been added. The chapter "fiber optic modules and components" has been rewritten and considerably enlarged.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 1 review)

Good basic engineering text on fiber and cable cable
This book covers all the fundamentals of fiber and fiber cable technology. The intended audience appears to be engineers at fiber and cable manufacturing plants. Most fiber books focus on end-users of fiber or designers of fiber electronics; I am not aware of any others written for this particular audience.

Peter Goessing has a long career in fiber cable engineering at both Siecor (now part of Corning) in the US and Siemens in Germany.

Readers who just want to learn more about installing fiber cable in the field or designing a building fiber network would probably be better off with one of the books by Hayes or Pearson that are oriented more towards end-users.
