EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD! A POLITICAL RIVALRY THAT ENDED IN TWO EXECUTIONS AN INTRICATE LOVE TRIANGLE THAT ALTERED THE COURSE OF HISTORY A RELIGIOUS REVOLUTION THAT CHANGED THE WORLD Two thousand years ago, Mary Magdalene hid a set of scrolls in the rocky foothills of the French Pyrenees, a gospel that contained her own version of the events and characters of the New Testament. Protected by supernatural forces, these sacred scrolls could be uncovered only by a special seeker, one who fulfills the ancient prophecy of l'attendue -- The Expected One. When journalist Maureen Pascal begins the research for a new book, she has no idea that she is stepping into an ancient mystery so secret, so revolutionary, that thousands of people have killed and died for it. She becomes deeply immersed in the mystical cultures of southwest France as the eerie prophecy of The Expected One casts a shadow over her life and work and a long-buried family secret comes to light. Maureen's extraordinary journey takes her from the dusty streets of Jerusalem to the cathedrals of Paris . . . and ultimately to search for the scrolls themselves. She must unravel clues that link history's great artistic masters, including Sandro Botticelli, Nicolas Poussin, and Jean Cocteau; the Medici, Bourbon, and Borgia dynasties; and great scientific minds like Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton. Ultimately, she, and the reader, come face-to-face with Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, Judas, and Salome in the pages of a deeply moving and powerful new gospel, the life of Jesus as told by Mary Magdalene. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.5 based on 134 reviews)
| Very good and thought provoking I like the story line although a little slow at first. There is a lot of history and things that you can pick up along the way as well. I like this because you wouldn't know this otherwise unless you did normal research.
Similar to theme to the Da Vinchi Code, but as some people wrongly say, it is not a 'Da Vinchi Code' style so don't expect it to be.
Very thought provoking.
August 22, 2008 | | The Expected One: A Novel (Magdalene Line) by Kathleen McGowan Great book. Goes along with Devinci Code and Angels and Demons. Easy read. Tough to put down, excellent for readers of this type series. July 09, 2008 | | Got more than I expected When the story begins in the ancient Old City of Jerusalem with Maureen Pascal, the main character, wandering through the winding pathways, I didn't think much about the book being anything more than the usual fare of mysterious piece of jewelry and nightmare When the story begins in the ancient Old City of Jerusalem with Maureen Pascal, the main character, wandering through the winding pathways, I didn't think much about the book being anything more than the usual fare of mysterious piece of jewelry and nightmares. But the journey thereafter grabbed my attention with each passing page as clues took me deeper into history of Mary Magdalene and Jesus. I've read a few books on this subject and of course the Da Vinci Code still there was something uniquely different with Ms. McGowan's historical story line. She wrote it in such a way that the pieces fell together nicely and easy. Unlike the De Vinci Code there wasn't such a sense of urgency. Although there was an urgency time line I could follow July 05, 2008 | | Absolutely beautiful book This book was written by a woman in a way that will be appealing to women. I loved every part of this book. I just finished reading a copy on loan from a dear friend who recommended it to me, but I will be purchasing my own copy. I will also anxiously await the next! June 13, 2008 | | Interesting and thought provoking We read this in my book club and I thouroughly enjoyed it. I love reading historical fiction, I feel I learn something without the dryness of a history book. While I realize this is FICTION, I still find it believable. Some of the critics compare this to Da Vinci Code and find it lacking. While the genre is similar I found The Expected One much easier to follow, not as gruesome, and far easier to believe. What I liked about The Expected One is that it starts in the present day and then tells the story from Mary Magedeline's as Jesus' wife prespective at the end. It will make you think about the Christian History as you've been taught and make you realize how important women were even in the beginning of time. My husband (who doesn't read often) and my Mom both read this as well and enjoyed it. June 08, 2008 | |
