This pad goes upside down from the photo. There are ridges to provide air for heat vents. I still feel some heat from our XPS and can't imagine why if this is really mars rover material.

This product works exactly as advertised. I have an Apple MacBook Pro 15" and it gets very hot..... so hot that it would leave red marks on my legs even through pants and even after less than 30 minutes of use unless I placed it on something. With this pad I can keep my Mac on my lap for a long time. Longest has been 2 hours straight and I barely feel any warmth through it.
One person rated this poorly, but if they had read the product description they would know that it really does perform as advertised. It's not meant to keep your laptop cool! It's meant to keep your lap from getting too hot from the laptop!!!
Some think it's an expensive product, but hey, it really works, it's very comfortable to have on the lap.... even if you're wearing shorts, but as one who does a lot of laptop computing on my lap I really enjoy not getting hot because of the heat from my MacBook Pro. It was very worth it for me.
When I bought it I also had the choice to buy a Chinook (that's the one for travel that rolls up) for an extra $10 and it's great, too! Normally it sells for $30, so I figured what the heck! I'm glad I spent the extra ten for it.

I don't think its worth the price. It keeps my computer slightly cooler but not enough to justify the price tag. Shipping was way overpriced for how they pack it. It comes in a bubble envelope.

I think this is the best laptop desk I've seen. Among those that are effective at keeping both computer and lap cool, this is by far the easiest to carry along, as it will fit into most notebook bags other than the simple sleeve type. My computer is a MacBook Pro, which runs pretty warm, and I get no perceptible heat into my lap with this lap desk. The increased airspace under the computer lets it run a degree or two cooler than when sitting on its own feet on a desk, as well.

I originally purchased the LapLogic Aerogel Extreme in Wide, and later came back to purchase a second, small one, for flying.
The G800 is like it's big brother, except narrower (same width as my 14" notebook and slightly thinner and lighter. I particularly hate flying and I really hate sitting in airports, which seems to be a minimum of 6 hours for any flight anymore. Like everyone else, I use my laptop to keep up, and like everyone else, I used to end up burning my legs from my laptop. Add that to hot airports (why can't they keep them cool?) and it made for a miserable experience.
Planes are even worse. A lot of them I simply can't sit my laptop on the tray because the person in front of me reclines their chair, so it has to go on my lap. Same problem - burned legs. And if you've ever sat for 90 minutes on the runway waiting for takeoff, you know the planes hit 90F in no time flat (and why can't they run the AC???). Without my G800, I couldn't use my laptop at all.
The G800 Aerogel Extreme solves that problem. I don't feel any heat at all - just none - even after 4 hours. I just close my laptop, pick it up along with the G800 and stick it in my bag (it's about 0.5" thick and the no-slip surface keeps it next to the laptop) and I'm off.
If you like using a mouse like me, I'd suggest the wide version for home use, but if you travel or use the touch pad, the G800 is awesome.
Be warned: once you use one, you'll never be able to live without it!
