Product Description
The EarCheck Monitor accurately detects the presence of middle ear fluid (i.e. otitis media with effusion) which may be associated with acute ear infection. It is clinically proven to be safe and reliable and provides accurate results in seconds. The EarCheck Monitor for home use is based on the same technology available for doctor's offices. This technology uses sound waves to detect middle ear fluid. The EarCheck Monitor sends a pleasant chirping sound into the ear canal. Some of this sound bounces off the eardrum and travels back to the instrument's built-in microphone. Sophisticated electronics inside the monitor analyze the reflected sound to determine if the eardrum is working normally. If there is fluid in the ear, the eardrum's vibrations may be restricted. The more fluid present, the greater the reflected sound. The procedure is quick and painless. Within seconds, you will be able to determine if your child has fluid in the middle ear. The EarCheck Monitor displays the results in a way that is easy for you to interpret and can assist you in determining when to seek medical attention.

Tip too large for children by Scott Lovell 1 Stars

Works great on adults but is worthless for kids as it won't fit in their ear well enough to get an accurate reading.

Terrible Results by Southern Girl (USA) 1 Stars

My daughter had both eardrums rupture at 5 months, which is very rare and so I purchased this product. I thought it was working fine b/c several times I'd taken her in for a suspected ear infection and the doctor's would tell me she was fine - no fluid or infection. So I continued to use the monitor, this month my daughter had one eardrum rupture and the other had fluid but no infection and my monitor always gave a reading of level one as before. So clearly this product didn't catch any fluid and an eardrum that ruptured the day after I checked it with the ear check monitor. I am now going to purchase a Dr. Mom's Otoscope and hope I have better results.

Your mileage may vary... by Buzz (Nashville, TN) 3 Stars

As a parent of a young child, it is sometimes difficult to know when a doctor visit is warranted. This is especially true with ear infections because the symptoms vary widely and are subtle. The child may run a fever or may not. They may have trouble sleeping, but there could be a hundred different reasons for that. Nobody wants to run to the doctor with every sniffle. However, the "wait and see" approach sometimes ends up with a child screaming in pain in the middle of the night. (Been there, done that, too many times.) We have three young children. Unfortunately, one is prone to ear infections and often exhibits no symptoms until the infection is in full swing. We bought this Earcheck device when it was brand new on the market, so we've been using ours for a couple of years. There are a couple of things that I can share: First, I think the accuracy of the results depends on the individual. One of our children seems to get pretty accurate readings. Another child does not. I speculate that this may have something to do with the specific characteristics of their ear canal. Second, this only detects the presence of fluid, not actually infection. You can have fluid without an infection, but the presence of fluid is a definite red flag. I'm giving this product three stars based on the variability of the results. If it works accurately for you or your child, then it is easy to use and gives quick and painless results. On the other hand, it doesn't work for everybody. Truly a "your mileage may vary" situation. If ear infections are a concern, I highly recommend buying an otoscope as your first line of defense. (An otoscope is that little light the doctor uses to check your ears.) The Earcheck device can also be used as a supplement to the otoscope. Here is a link to one: AMAZING Dr Mom Slimline Stainless LED Otoscope®, Pocket Otoscope!

Ear Check Works by Parent of Three (Dayton, Ohio) 5 Stars

Used ear check on my three children, helping me diagnose at home that, yes, indeed, the kid needs to see a doctor to get antibiotics. It's nice to not have to wonder if the kid just needs a nap, or needs treatment. Am online buying one as a gift.

Works great for us! by C. Davis (San Diego, Ca) 5 Stars

This product worked for our son! It seems to be very accurate and right on with the different levels. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants another way to monitor ear infection probability. Of course we still rely mostly on the doctor, but this has been a way for us to get piece of mind at home while we are waiting of deciding if we need to make an appointment.
