EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Each autumn, one of nature's most magnificent dramas plays out when striped bass undertake a journey, from the northeastern United States to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, in search of food and warmer seas. Writer and angler David DiBenedetto followed this great migration -- the fall run -- for three months in the autumn of 2001. On the Run offers vivid portrayals of the zany and obsessive characters DiBenedetto met on his travels -- including the country's most daring fisherman, an underwater videographer who chucked his corporate job in favor of filming striped bass, and the reclusive angler who claims that catching the world-record striper in 1982 sent his life into a tailspin. Along his route, DiBenedetto also delves into the natural history and biology of this great game fish, and depicts the colorful cultures of the seaside communities where the striped bass reigns supreme. |

| | Makes you want to quit your job and go fishing! by Michael Skalski (Marlton, NJ) 5 Stars May 13, 2008 Great read. I'm actually only 1/2 way through it, but it's been fun! Entertaining and written with excellent voice.
Oh, by the way, don't leave it out in the rain. It's not waterproof. That explains the 1/2 way through bit.

| | If you love stripers read this book! by U.B. Kiddin (Hoboken, NJ) 4 Stars November 16, 2005 I am by no means a good striper fisherman, but man do I love to fish for them! This book is humorous and well written, a great little story about all the different characters who pursue this mighty fish. I especially loved the part about "skishing!" it's laugh out loud funny! | The Most Important Fish in the Sea: Menhaden and America by H. Bruce Franklin (Author)
In this brilliant portrait of the oceans’ unlikely hero, H. Bruce Franklin shows how menhaden have shaped America’s natural—and national—history, and why a single company now threatens their crucial ecological mission. The same pudgy little fish that once saved the Pilgrims from starvation and helped power the industrial revolution are today being ground up by the billions and turned into everything from linoleum to lipstick. The massive harvest isn’t just devastating one fish, but...

| The Striped Bass Chronicles: The Saga of America's Great Game Fish by George Reiger (Author)
The striped bass sustained American colonists throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and went west with nineteenth-century pioneers. During the past one hundred years, however, Atlantic coastal stocks have been overfished three times to the brink of recreational extinction.
Today, the stripers are back in such numbers that they're the center of a saltwater fly-fishing revival. Author George Reiger recounts his own relationship to the striped bass, and traces the history of...
