Product Description
Finally—the ultimate diet for fast, safe weight loss, lifelong health, and longer life, based on more than twenty years of research and the latest findings on appetite and weight. Metabolic specialist Ron Rosedale, M.D., has designed the Rosedale Diet to regulate the powerful hormone leptin, which controls appetite and weight loss by telling the brain when to eat, how much to eat—and when to stop. New research shows that leptin may be one of the body's most important hunger control mechanisms. Control leptin, and you control your weight. Most people's leptin levels are out of control, causing them to overeat and to store fat rather than burn it. The only way to flip the "hunger switch" back to normal is through a diet high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates, saturated fat, and trans-fatty acids often found in processed food—plus just 15 minutes of daily exercise. Dr. Rosedale's 21-day diet plan is simple: Just select from the many foods on his "A" list, including "healthy-fat" foods such as avocados, nuts, olives, lobster, crab, shrimp, goat cheese, Cornish game hen, venison, and more. Then gradually add foods from the "B" list, such as steak, lamb chops, fruits, beans, and so on. A 28-day menu plan and more than 100 recipes, such as Dilled Salmon and Fresh Asparagus, Gingery Chicken Soup, Lasagna, Black Bean Wrap, Raspberry Mousse Cake, and French Silk Pie, make eating the Rosedale way deliciously easy. Weight loss is just the beginning. The Rosedale Diet will make you feel satisfied, reduce cravings, and put you in control of your "sweet tooth." It can even help eliminate or reduce heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions associated with "natural" aging, as many of Dr. Rosedale's patients can attest. You'll find inspiring stories from them—and the power to control your weight and improve your health—in this groundbreaking book.

Dr Rosedale explains leptin and how it works in our body. I used the information in ths book along with the Max International supplement call MAX WLX. I was able to understand and break my life long leptin resistance and lose 50#. The book gives clear guidlines as what foods to eat and which ones to avoid.

Inconclusive research...but very promising (a review with insight) by Lincoln Gergar (herenow) 4 Stars

The Rosedale Diet may possibly be a revolutionary approach to health. More longterm studies will prove it's efficacy. Dr. Ron Rosedale introduces a diet that has not been mainstreamed before - minizing or even totally eliminating carbohydrates (except vegetable fiber which is classified a carbohydrate but gets catabolized as a fat), maximizing healthy fats, and regulating protein. This approach transforms the body from a sugar-burning machine into a fat-burning machine. Sounds pretty simple. Looking at all of the reviews on Amazon.com, it looks like this diet is a winner. What this book is lacking, however, is the long term studies that show the safety of consuming large quantites of fats. Dr. Rosedale asserts that this diet is 100% safe and effective, however since it has only been practiced for a few years, inherent problems can not yet be identified. The body takes time to show signs of deficiency, breakdown, and disease. I look foward to seeing how this diet stands up over time. In addition, a large part of Dr. Rosedale's stragety of reducing insulin and leptin levels is a combination of well-studied supplements - various laboratory researched vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, and herbs. Since all of the recommended supplements have been shown to reduce insulin and leptin, and improve fat catabolism, it will most definately improve the effectiveness of the Rosedale Diet. However, by using these supplements the effectiveness of a stand-alone diet plan (no carb, only fat & protein) can not be assessed. Quite possibly, the useage of these supplements will even mask the effectiveness of the Rosedale diet. Especially since some recommended supplements are used to digest the large amounts of ingested fat. The only way to prove the Rosedale diet is to isolate the diet, without the use of supplements. However, for someone suffering from diabetes or obesity, combining the diet with supplements may not be a concern because they want results, period. For me however, being a longevity researcher, I would like to see the diet alone tested for it's effectiveness. My attraction to this book was the new approach to eating. I have studied and practiced Caloric Restriction (CR) and fasting for approximately 8 years, following an all-natural, organic foods, non-supplement, non-pharmeceutical approach. I personally feel that we should eat the foods that nature created, afterall our bodies evolved on these foods. This point Dr. Rosedale agrees with and states multiple times in the first 100 pages of his book, however he then suprisingly recommends a long list of synthetic supplements. To me this seems contradictive to his earlier stance. However, it is not unusual to see many health professionals taking a similar approach, such as the internet's most popluar alternative doctor Dr. Mercola - who also practices the Rosedale diet. My personal experience is that synthetic foods do not digest properly in the body, interfere with the body's natural homeostasis, and further weaken the body. The body cannot properly digest that which is not part of nature and by adding hormones and enzymes into the body, the body then stops producing these same hormones and enzymes, further weaking the body. Anyone who practices die-hard CR with natural eating will agree. A thoroughly-cleaned body (through years of regular fasting) will have difficulty digesting synthetic foods and supplements. Even Dr. Rosedale states in this book that some of these supplements may create diarreha or headache. In fact some of his metallic supplements are toxic at higher doseages (which he clearly states in this book). Anytime the body wants to quickly expel foods from the body it is because the food is toxic or creates a toxic reaction in the body. Headaches are a clear indication of toxins passing through the blood stream. I read this book because the first sentence opens with evidence that Caloric Restriction (CR) is the most effective diet for the body - which I totally agree with. Afterall, CR is the only diet that has proven evidence to increase lifespan. So I was excited to learn how the fat-burning Rosedale diet is a form of CR. However, technically it is not. What Dr. Rosedale has done is make a hazy correlation between his diet and CR. Dr. Rosedale has seen that CR effectively reduces all bio-markers of aging, including insulin and leptin levels. since a fat-buring and supplemented diet also reduces insulin and leptin levels, Dr. Rosedale has taken an unsubstantiated leap to claim that his diet and CR produce the same results - longevity and optimal health. Unfortuanately, this book lacks the evidence to support this leap. Personally, I would love to see the fat-burning diet proven for longevity and quite possibly future research will prove this. However until the research is completed, I cannot accept that CR and the Rosedale diet are similiar. One interesting correlation that I personally made, which is not presented in this book or anywhere else that I am aware, is that the body's response to the Rosedale diet is similar to the body's response to water fasting. In both cases, the body converts to a fat-burning machine (read Dr. Joel Furhman's "Fasting and Eating for Health"). This insight is what sparked my initial interest in the Rosedale diet. However no further evidence is presented in this book to connect the two. It seems to me that possibly the human body is designed to be a fat-burning machine, since when food is removed, the body returns to this method. The possibility that the body is designed to digest fat as the primary fuel will keep me motivated to pursue the Rosedale diet further. Unlike the dietary guidelines in this book - eating as much fat as you want - I will construct the Rosedale diet around my current CR diet - eating only enough food to keep the body functioning at its optimal level, eating no extra food that would burden the body. I will take the advice of another Amazon.com reviewer (K. Koglin, a 1-star rater) and look at the book "Mastering Leptin" by Byron Richards. Ultimately, the Rosedale diet needs more research to support it's claims of dietary superiority. Yes, this book does sound a bit like a "fad diet" book, however I give Dr. Ron Rosedale credit for being the first person (that I am aware of) to introduce this diet to the mass public. For that this book gets 4 stars. Thank you Ron.

This book delivers the information in a useful manner. Not only for turning off the hunger switch, but for basic metabolic info about many processes in the body. I found the results quite quick and impressive in overall health, not just in the area of weight loss.

Alarmed by my stubborn weight gain and rising glucose blood levels reaching prediabetic numbers,I found this book through a nutritional website by [...]. This book opens your eyes to the scientific metabloic reasons for weight gain.I finally know why I was spiraling out of control with weight gain. Dr. Rosedale gives clear explanations on the insulin /leptin resistance cascade; gives an abundance of recipes; and also gives vitamin and supplement suggestions again with clear explanations of why and when to take them. The basics of the diet are moderate amts.of protein (because excess protein just turns into fat!!),minimal starches, minimal fruits; but tons of veggies, and surprisingly plenty of satisfying "good" fats from olive oil, almonds, and avocados that nip those hunger cravings in the bud. Luckily I love to cook and enjoy all the foods suggested. I go back to the book, time and time again to absorb the nutritional information and create tastey meals from the recipes.I only hoped Dr.Rosedale had a website that offered supplements to buy, but there are plenty of online vitamin sites. This is a lifestyle change that brought me a weight loss of 34 lbs. so far with consistent serum glucose levels that have dropped from 109 to 88,and I hope to lose another 34lbs.!! This is a great way to help any hormonal imbalances as well. If you plateau go back to the original 3 week plan and be sure to exercise after a bigger meal to burn off any excess sugar. My husband has benefited and even my son - all down 20lbs. This is not a junk food quick fix kind of diet; but if you have been on every other diet like myself for 20 years and are tired of counting points at Weight Watchers this is the book for you.
