| Gorillas -- book review by Martha W. Straub (Harrison, Maine) 4 Stars May 01, 2009 Excellent photos. Text a little too detailed for younger children. When reading to pre-schoolers, just skip over the parts about gorillas being hunted and killed! But our gorilla-loving granddaughter loved the pictures and whatever story I made up to go with each picture!
| | Animals in the jungle by Reader Views (Austin, Texas) 4 Stars February 20, 2009 Reviewed by Evan Weldon (age 7) for Reader Views (2/09)
"Gorillas" by Seymour Simon is a good book about gorillas. Did you know a gorilla can eat up to fifty pounds of plants a day? They eat juicy fruits, leaves, stems and shoots. I also learned that gorillas are very playful. Gorillas are endangered because of poachers and hunters. Their only real enemy is people.
My favorite part of the books was the pictures. There were lots of close-ups with lots of details of the gorillas. There was even a close-up of a gorilla's hand. The gorillas' hands are big and black and thick with long black fingernails. My favorite picture is of a baby climbing on its mother's head.
I would recommend "Gorillas" by Seymour Simon to people who want to learn more about gorillas. Even my four-year-old brother and my mom enjoyed this book.
| | Gorillas! by Lynn Ellingwood (Webster, NY United States) 5 Stars June 30, 2008 I learned a lot from this book. I didn't know a lot of the information about gorillas in this book, I appreciate Seymour Simon who writes these wonderful books and teaches us so much about science. I will add this book to my classroom library.
| | WONDERFUL INTRODUCTION BOOK. by D. Blankenship (The Ozarks) 5 Stars November 25, 2006 The photographs in this book alone are worth the price of the book. This is a great starter book for children. The text is quite simply written yet is loaded with facts and leaves plenty of room open for discussion. The book is quite well researched. This is a good one to read one on one with your child or it is good to read to the entire class. The kids all seem to like it quite well, which, in the end, is really what matters. Highly recommend this one.
