EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description You don't have to be single forever... John Gray has helped millions of men and women develop better relationships with his phenomenal New York Times bestseller Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. Now he blasts off into the exciting territory of the singles universe, applying his unique experience to unattached men and women--including the newly separated or divorced--looking for lasting intimacy. Going beyond the old rules, John Gray doesn't just tell you how to behave, he explains why. With compassion and understanding he takes you through the five stages of dating--attraction, uncertainty, exclusivity, intimacy, and engagement; provides inspired ideas on finding your soul mate; and offers advice on creating a loving and mutually fulfilling relationship. If you're trying to find a date, debating whether to continue a relationship, or searching for commitment, Mars and Venus on a Date is your essential guide to successfully getting what you want. | Amazon.com Review The latest tentacle of John Gray's formidable Mars and Venus octopus deals with a topic near to the heart of almost everybody--dating. With a lot of insight and common sense, Gray tackles the hard and often messy business of finding "a soul mate." Without fear or favor, Mars and Venus on a Date dissects the dynamics between men and women and the five stages each relationship must pass through: attraction, uncertainty, exclusivity, intimacy, and, finally, engagement (for marriage, of course). Even though Mars and Venus on a Date isn't The Rules by a long shot, the courtship it describes is surprisingly old-fashioned. It's chock-full of things your mother might say: "Most people find or are found by their soul mates when they are not really looking." "The man should never talk more than the woman." But how to know if the person you're with is your "soul mate?" Gray writes, "When our soul wants to marry our partner, it feels like a promise that we came into this world to keep." Which translates into, "When you know, you know." |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 129 reviews)
| Good info by Robert G. Splaine Jr. (Phoenix) 4 Stars September 13, 2009 A lot of good insight into the dynamics involved in the dating process between the genders. I recommend the book for those who don't understand why they are having difficulty meeting their mate.
| | Oh Boy! by A reader (Midwest) 1 Stars September 07, 2009 I was intrigued by the title of this book and enjoyed a beautiful day outside reading it. The first several chapters are just common sense. No real jewels here. Let your relationships take their course - no need to jump in to bed. I agree. Of course! Let's move on.
Then the chapter on where to meet your soul mate (more on that later) was a crazy! Talk about hunting in all the wrong places! He suggests that if you don't like sporting events, go to sporting events. If you don't like the water, go to water events. i could go on and on here. Opposites attract to a point. I want to find someone who has their own interest, but also things we can share together! I've been with the Harley guy, the golfer, the sports fanatic! I don't care to pretend to like these things just to get a man! In the long run, you end up lonely or bored out of your mind because you have nothing in common. (and really don't care to hit the open road on a Harley, or spend 4 hours in the heat trying to hit a little ball with a club or getting hearded around at sporting events- because why? So he suggests you to be someone you are not. Not a good way to start a relationship. Save the other person from this drama!
Another suggestion would be to date a person that a friend is no longer dating. Excuse me, but I don't cross that line. I would never date an ex of a friend. What are you thinking?
I give one star for the areas of verbage - what not to say and what to say. Those were fun and quite good. Skim at the book store - not worth the $$.
| | okay book by molly (usa) 3 Stars September 04, 2009 okay book that is very generalized. Some good tips but somethings don't fit the bill.
| | A good, practical guide for dating by Keira Raines (Houston) 5 Stars August 31, 2009 It's funny how there are so many books out there written for men to teach them how to win over a woman while dating her, yet not many books written for couples who want to have a meaningful dating experience that could lead to so much more. Thankfully a trusted relationship espert, John Gray, wrote one. I've enjoy and benefited from John's books for years. This one was no exception. I really appreciated how he explained the "stages" couples go through while dating. It takes away confusion and fear of the future. While my partner hasn't read the book, I have applied what John suggests to our relationship. I am much more at peace and am enjoying myself much more than I did when I was constantly worried about where my relationship was going and if I should brace myself for disappointment.
| | Dating 101 by J. Robinson (TX, USA) 4 Stars August 09, 2009 This book really made me think about my own "rules" of dating, and gave me some interesting and useful insight. Gray stresses the importance of women waiting to go all-the-way in order to minimize the risk of heartbreak, which I now agree with. I was a little put off how Gray seems to excuse men's poor behavior by saying they are in the "uncertainty" stage and that women should just be patient and willing to accept rejection. If I use the "He's Just Not that Into You" strategy, I should walk away. If I use the Mars and Venus strategy, I should wait and see. For me it's really about keeping my dignity and self-respect in check. All in all I liked this book and appreciate the guidance and confidence it has given me to identify and find one of my many soul mates. Take it slow and keep the faith.
