Good shelf review, not really good for surgical pimp questions by Jmhere (Los Angeles, CA) 4 Stars

Good cases for the shelf exam. Would not use this as a primary source for the OR.

There are a lot of errors in the Q&As and no published/available errata that I could find. Probably other sources are more helpful - Pestana is free, efficient, pocketable, pretty comprehensive...

Case files by med student 5 Stars

Case Files is extremely helpful for all rotations and surgery is no exception. The charts in the book are helpful and I frequently referenced them. It also included surgical cases that I did not come across in other books, which made me feel like Case Files ensured I didn't miss any major topic. It is also helpful because it takes the "medical" approach that the questions on the shelf exam take. Case Files cannot be your only source, but it is definitely a must-have.

Not relevant to shelf exam by T. Man 1 Stars

Good if you just want to learn surgery related information. Bad for the shelf exam. Irrelevant information. Will make you wonder if you studied. Perhaps suitable for surgical residency pimping.

Fantastic! I read ONLY this book and passed the shelf.  by Jason Bourne (Northeast, USA) 5 Stars

Fantastic book that is easy to read and very comprehensive. A lot of people favor Surgical Recall, but I just didn't like that one. Can't tell you why exactly. Something about its size and outline-style format. In my opinion, stick with Case Files.
