Product Description
Having a complete understanding of the properties and behaviours of rock is essential when undertaking any engineering involving them. By drawing on the Author's years of experience in the field this book covers the properties of a number of rocks, and explores discontinuities, strength, deformability and permeability of rock masses and calculations of stress. . Author is a consultant following many years experience at MIT. Draws together essential data on the properties of various types of rock. Offers an inexpensive alternative to in-situ tests

Must have for the Rock Engineer! by Steven C. Devin (Quincy, CA USA) 5 Stars
September 10, 2009
This is a wonderful book filled with MANY useful correlations which otherwise are scattered throughout the literature. Tables with correlations from numerous investigators are the norm allowing the practitioner to get a sense of the variability involved in estimating a given parameter. Estimation of the geological strength index (GSI) is included however, the many useful additions made to assist in its estimation in given rock types made by investigators such as Marinos and Hoek are unfortunately not included. In my opinion every practitioner of rock engineering should have this book together with Afrouz (1992) "Practical Handbook of Rock Mass Classification Systems and Modes of Ground Failure" on their shelves. The price may discourage some from purchasing this book but if there is any way that you can afford it I think that you'll be pleased.

by Bhawani Singh (Author), R K Goel (Author)

Vast knowledge has been developed in the area of tunnelling in weak rocks over the years, and this book bridges an important gap by bringing all the information together for the benefit of the tunnelling Industry. In particular, tunnelling in poor conditions is a huge challenge for engineers and designers, and this book tackles all typical problems headon.

Topics covered include classification approach, design approaches for site-specific grounds, a new invention on shielded tunnel...

Stability Analysis and Modelling of Underground Excavations in Fractured Rocks, Volume 1 (Geo-Engineering Book Series) (Pt.1)

Stability Analysis and Modelling of Underground Excavations in Fractured Rocks, Volume 1 (Geo-Engineering Book Series) (Pt.1)
by Jian Zhao (Author), Weishen Zhu (Author)

* Provides practical solutions to the challenge of modeling and analyzing rock masses
* Consolidates a wealth of previously published technical papers on the subject and introduces previously unseen material

This authoritative title is a key reference for any Geo-engineer. Rock masses differ considerably from man-made materials, and their properties can vary with location, direction and time. As a result there is a critical need to capture these variations via modeling and analysis....

Tunnelling and Tunnel Mechanics: A Rational Approach to Tunnelling

Tunnelling and Tunnel Mechanics: A Rational Approach to Tunnelling
by Dimitrios Kolymbas (Author)

The book covers not only practical aspects but also the underlying theoretical approaches. It also covers the fundamentals of rock mechanics. It addresses not only students but also professionals who are interested to understand the underlying principles and methods and – possibly – to further develop them. Emphasis is given to the mechanical approach rather than to hardly tractable empirical statements. The text is concise and as far as possible complete and comprises a large list of...
