EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
Radio Tracking and Animal Populations is a succinct synthesis of emerging technologies and their applications to the empirical and theoretical problems of population assessment. The book is divided into sections designed to encompass the various aspects of animal ecology that may be evaluated using radiotelemetry technology - experimental design, equipment and technology, animal movement, resource selection, and demographics. Wildlife biologists at the leading edge of new developments in the technology and its application have joined forces.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 3 reviews)

An excellent reference by Shawn Crimmins (Morgantown, WV) 5 Stars
October 27, 2006
Millspaugh and Marzluff's text is the most complete and up-to-date resource for information regarding the application and analysis of radio-telemetry studies. All aspects, from sampling design to analytical techniques, are described in depth. Anyone who is considering conducting a telemetry study or the analysis of any telemetry data should read this book front to back first.

Radio Tracking and Animal Populations 5 Stars
November 02, 2003
Radio tracking and animal populations covers all aspects of radio tracking wild animals, from designing the study right through to analyzing results and drawing conclusion from the findings. I have found this book to be the most comprehensively referenced, and in depth piece of literature on radio tracking that I have managed to locate so far. I have constantly used this book while carrying out a telemetry study as the research for my masters degree, and recommend this book as the ideal starting point for anyone considering carying out a radio tracking study of wild animals. My only regret concerning this book is that I didn't come across it earlier in my studies.

A Manual for Wildlife Radio Tagging, Second Edition (Biological Techniques)
by Robert E. Kenward (Author)

Retaining the introductory flavor of the now classic First Edition, this revision includes all the latest techniques in the field. New information on methods of radio tag harnessing, new sections on satellite tracking techniques and new types of data analysis are all included. Still the only comprehensive, up-to-date, introduction to this fundamental technique for wildlife and behavioral biologists.

Resource Selection by Animals: Statistical Design and Analysis for Field Studies

Resource Selection by Animals: Statistical Design and Analysis for Field Studies
by B.F. Manly (Author), L. McDonald (Author), D.L. Thomas (Author), Trent L. McDonald (Author), Wallace P. Erickson (Author)

The current literature on resource selection by animals is a maze of methodologies for data collection and interpretation. Field biologists need a guide through the labyrinth. This book provides such a guide. It gives a clear and consistent framework for the study of how animals select their resources (food and habitat) by taking the reader through different types of study design. It is an invaluable handbook for the field biologist, especially those concerned with the management and...

Analysis of Wildlife Radio-Tracking Data

Analysis of Wildlife Radio-Tracking Data
by Gary C. White (Author), Robert A. Garrott (Author)

With the substantial advances in the miniaturization of electronic components, wildlife biologists now routinely monitor the movements of free-ranging animals with radio-tracking devices. This book explicates the many analytical techniques and computer programs available to extract biological information from the radio tracking data.

Key Features:
* Presentation of software programs for solving specific problems
* Design of radio-tracking...

Hierarchical Modeling and Inference in Ecology: The Analysis of Data from Populations, Metapopulations and Communities

Hierarchical Modeling and Inference in Ecology: The Analysis of Data from Populations, Metapopulations and Communities
by J. Andrew Royle (Author), Robert M. Dorazio (Author)

A guide to data collection, modeling and inference strategies for biological survey data using Bayesian and classical statistical methods.

This book describes a general and flexible framework for modeling and inference in ecological systems based on hierarchical models, with a strict focus on the use of probability models and parametric inference. Hierarchical models represent a paradigm shift in the application of statistics to ecological inference problems because they combine explicit...

Wildlife Demography: Analysis of Sex, Age, and Count Data

Wildlife Demography: Analysis of Sex, Age, and Count Data
by John R. Skalski (Author), Kristin E. Ryding (Author), Joshua Millspaugh (Author)

Wildlife Demography compiles the multitude of available estimation techniques based on sex and age data, and presents these varying techniques in one organized, unified volume. Designed to guide researchers to the most appropriate estimator based upon their particular data set and the desired level of study precision, this book provides quantitative consideration, statistical models, estimator variance, assumptions and examples of use.

The authors focus on estimation techniques using sex...
