EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The book represents all the knowledge we currently have on ocean circulation. It presents an up-to-date summary of the state of the science relating to the role of the oceans in the physical climate system. The book is structured to guide the reader through the wide range of World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) science in a consistent way. Cross-references between contributors have been added, and the book has a comprehensive index and unified reference list. The book is simple to read, at the undergraduate level. It was written by the best scientists in the world who have collaborated to carry out years of experiments to better understand ocean circulation. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 1 review)
| the most complete book on climate and ocean circulation by pietro-di-tricesimo (charleville-mezieres, France) 5 Stars August 14, 2001 Being the manager of an EAS office in France (bureau d'étude d'impact sur l'environnement), the book represent a great help for my work. Despite the price, all the datas are useful. From deep water to ocean surface circulation, from sattelite global observation to shipboard observation, you will miss no data, no equations and no methodology (that's the bestpart for my office). For people who want to work in this field of research, this book is a masterpiece. Not only for the professionnal qualities of the authors but for the synthesis of the WOCE. This book is within the reach of any person with a background in sciences. I highly recommended this book to university students in oceanology. And the structure of the contents is clear and readable. Learn the future of our planet and the CO2 poison progression.

| Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography: Second and Revised Edition by W.J. Emery (Editor), R.E. Thomson (Editor)
Data Analysis Methods in Physical Oceanography is a practical reference guide to established and modern data analysis techniques in earth and ocean sciences. This second and revised edition is even more comprehensive with numerous updates, and an additional appendix on 'Convolution and Fourier transforms'. Intended for both students and established scientists, the five major chapters of the book cover data acquisition and recording, data processing and presentation, statistical...

| Atmosphere-Ocean Dynamics, Volume 30 (International Geophysics) by Adrian E. Gill (Author)
A systematic, unifying approach to the dynamics of the ocean and atmosphere is given in this book, with emphasis on the larger-scale motions (from a few kilometers to global scale). The foundations of the subject (the equations of state and dynamical equations) are covered in some detail, so that students with training in mathematics should find it a self-contained text. Knowledge of fluid mechanics is helpful but not essential. Simple mathematical models are used to demonstrate the fundamental...

| A Climate Modelling Primer by Kendal McGuffie (Author), Ann Henderson-Sellers (Author)
As a consequence of recent increased awareness of the social and political dimensions of climate, many non-specialists discover a need for information about the variety of available climate models. A Climate Modelling Primer, Third Edition explains the basis and mechanisms of all types of current physically-based climate models. A thoroughly revised and updated edition, this book assists the reader in understanding the complexities and applicabilities of today’s wide range of...

| Waves in the Ocean and Atmosphere: Introduction to Wave Dynamics by Joseph Pedlosky (Author)
WAVES IN THE OCEAN AND ATMOSPHERE presents a study of the fundamental theory of waves appropriate for first year graduate students in oceanography, meteorology and associated sciences. Starting with an elementary overview of the basic wave concept, specific wave phenomena are then examined, including: surface gravity waves, internal gravity waves, lee waves, waves in the presence of rotation, geostrophic adjustment, quasi-geostrophic waves and potential vorticity, wave-mean flow interaction and...

| Ocean Circulation, Second Edition by Open University (Author)
This second edition retains the general structure of the first edition, but has been updated in the light of recent oceanographic research, and improved as a teaching text on the basis of feedback from past students and other readers.
Notable additions include new sections addressing the topic of numerical modelling, and more discussion of natural oscillations in the ocean-atmosphere system (previously confined to the El Niño phenomenon). In particular, the Chapter...
