Without alternative by J. Goebel (Hamburg) 3 Stars
December 01, 2007
The title is no exaggeration: This book is the THE fundamental source of traffic flow theory. I know no book that is that comprehensive; the extensive coverage of macroscopic and microscopic traffic flow theory is supplemented by traffic demand modeling, intersection planning, traffic simulation... I am not aware of another publication containing such a broad content. Regardless whether you are scientist in traffic modeling or practitioner, there is no alternative to this book. Although not updated since 1990, most is still valid today. A remarkable exception is the chapter about traffic simulation since the significant progress during the last two decades is not covered (-1 star). Plus, the physical quality is very low: Soft-cover almost as thin as any page, printed in black & white, weak binding (some pages loose after only a week of careful reading). For approximately $100, I'd expect better. (-1 star). Regardless of these handicaps, I strongly recommend this book. There is no better. I hope, though, there will be an updated edition one day.

This book give wide range of traffic flow fundamental. The context start from explaining the principle of traffic flow theory to explaining the application simulating the traffic flow in real world. The appropriate person for this book should has a background about statistic and claculus.

Fundamentals of Transportation and Traffic Operations

Fundamentals of Transportation and Traffic Operations
by C.F. Daganzo (Author)

The basic concepts in the transportation and traffic operations field that should be understood by every transportation professional are presented here in a thorough, coherent, and self-contained way. Introductory chapters on "tools" cover topics such as graphical methods, optimization, probability, stochastic processes, statistics and simulation; these are complemented by application chapters on traffic dynamics, control, observation, and scheduled modes, where the fundamental ideas are...

Modelling Transport

Modelling Transport
by Juan Dios de Ortúzar (Author), Luis G. Willumsen (Author)

Transport planning, infrastructure project evaluation and policy making, particularly at the urban level, continue to be important issues in the 21st century. Transport modelling requires mathematical techniques in order to make predictions, which can then be utilised in planning and design. This is the basis for improved decision-making and planning in the transport arena.

Building on the tremendous success of the previous editions, the new Modelling Transport continues to be the state...

Urban Transportation Planning

Urban Transportation Planning
by Michael Meyer (Author), Eric Miller (Author)

The book can serve as an ideal textbook for both undergraduate and graduate courses in Urban Transportation Planning. It fills an appropriate and important niche by giving proper emphasis to what "actors" and activities can influence the quality of the planning process and its eventual impact on a community. The incorporation of major legislation (ISTEA, CAAA, etc.) and other developments (GIS, traffic impact analysis, 1000 Friends of Oregon, etc.)that affect transportation planning...

Traffic Safety

Traffic Safety
by Leonard Evans (Author)

Book Description "Traffic Safety" applies the methods of science to better understand one of the world’s most pressing public health problems. More than a million people are killed annually in traffic worldwide. This 2004 book is even better than the author’s 1991 classic "Traffic Safety and the Driver". The present book covers many safety policy topics. "Traffic Safety" goes to the heart of the problem, with unconstrained analyses of the inadequacies of government in one of its chief...
