EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Neural tube defects affect about 4000 pregnancies each year and are thus among the most common of severe birth defects. Prenatal diagnosis can now detect about 70% of neural tube defects but the tests produce many false positives, so the question is under what circumstances should they be recommended. This comprehensive volume - the collective knowledge of more than 55 experts in the field - provides lucid and authoritative discussions on this topic as well as on a wide variety of theoretical, experimental, and clinical issues. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 1 review)
| A much needed book on spina bifida by Herb Hanscom (Washington, DC) 5 Stars February 17, 2006 Finally a comprehensive and up-to-date book on spina bifida is available! Each chapter is a beautiful review of the most important aspects of this condition. The contributors are all world experts in the field. My favorite chapters are those on risk factors, prevention of spina bifida by maternal periconceptional use of folic acid, and prenatal surgery, but all of them are interesting, well written, and accessible even for the uninitiated. I recommend this book to all, professionals, family members, and any other person interested in neural tube defects.
