EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Lupus, a disease of the immune system, can be quite deadly, claiming the lives of thousands of patients yearly. Dr. Daniel J. Wallace is one of the world's leading authorities on this disorder, an eminent clinician who has treated over 2000 lupus patients, the largest such practice in America. His The Lupus Book, originally published in 1995, immediately established itself as the most readable and helpful book on the disease. Now Dr. Wallace has once again completely revised The Lupus Book, incorporating a wealth of new information. This Fourth Edition discusses the newest clinical trials and emerging therapies--all laid out in user-friendly language that any patient could understand. Readers will also discover fully updated sections on the science of lupus and breakthroughs in research. And as in past editions, the book provides absolutely lucid answers to such questions as: What causes lupus? How and where is the body affected? Can a woman with lupus have a baby? And how can one manage this disease? Indeed, Dr. Wallace has distilled his extensive experience, providing the most up-to-date information on causes, prevention, cure, exercise, diet, and many other important topics. There is also a glossary of terms and an appendix of lupus resource materials compiled by the Lupus Foundation of America. Over a million Americans have lupus. The Fourth Edition of The Lupus Book offers these patients and their families a wealth of reliable, up-to-date information that will help them manage the disease and live a happier life. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 42 reviews)
| Excellent Reference Book by Eme' Savage 5 Stars July 01, 2009 I was recently diagnosed with Lupus. I was relieved to finally have a diagnosis, but I had a LOT of questions. I read it cover to cover. It helped me to differentiate what was part of the disease and what was not. It also helps me to know WHAT to ask when I go to the doctor.
I have already used it as a reference since reading it. I highly recommend this for anyone who has been diagnosed or suspects that they have this disease. Or even those who have a loved one with the disease. It really answers a lot of questions.
| | Excellent reference for Lupus information by M. Chan 5 Stars April 22, 2009 The book covers a lot of area for Lupus treatment. It explains the body function and how to maintain a good defense against problems associated with Lupus. This is the best book for my level of understanding.
| | Most Comprehensive Guide to Lupus Available by Nina Kaufman (Los Angeles, CA) 5 Stars December 14, 2008 Dr. Wallace's book has all the essential information anyone diagnosed with Lupus will ever need to know. It is written in such a way as to not intimidate non-medical people (patients and their families). Yet the book doesn't skimp on information. Highly recommended.
| | The Lupus Book by T R D (CA) 5 Stars December 11, 2008 This book is very informative and helpful. I like that you can get into the technical side as much as you want with the wonderful information provided, or you can use this as a handy reference tool and a well put together overview of lupus. I have not been diagnosed with lupus, but for the past year have been going through some of the signs and symptoms and am just in "medical limbo" until I can get a specific diagnosis. Since lupus is one of the diseases my symptoms and blood work are pointing toward, I asked my library to purchase this book and borrowed it from there. If I do get diagnosed with lupus, I plan to buy this book as it is very informative and definitely worth owning.
I like that this is written by a doctor who cares for lupus patients and not only used medical research but his own knowledge from his personal practice experience. As others have mentioned, it can get very technical...but you can also easily skim those sections. He not only discusses things that are common in lupus, but also things that may happen down the road, and I think this is a great reference point for anyone with lupus who may find their disease progressing in one of those directions.
This is a very well done and up to date book. Excellent reference.
| | Wonderful Book by Crystal L. Walls 5 Stars November 13, 2008 Dr. Daniel Wallace is my lupus doctor and has been for many years. This book talks about everything important about dealing, having and living with lupus. He is an amazing doctor and writer!
