Product Description
No matter how busy you are, at the end of the day you want fresh, flavorful meals that are easy to prepare. And you want lots of choices and variations—recipes that call for your favorite foods and take advantage of excellent (and readily available) ingredients. In the first book from the award-winning magazine Everyday Food, you’ll find all of that: 250 simple recipes for delicious meals that are quick enough to make any day of the week. Because a change in weather affects how we cook as much as what we cook, the recipes in Everyday Food are arranged by season. For spring, you’ll find speedy preparations for main-course salads, chicken, and poached salmon that minimize time spent at the stove; summer features quick techniques for grilling the very best burgers and kabobs as well as no-cook pasta sauces; for fall, there are braised meats and hearty main-course soups; and winter provides new takes on rich one-dish meals, roasts and stews, and hearty baked pastas. Finally, a chapter on basics explains how to make year-round staples such as foolproof roast chicken, risotto, couscous, and chocolate sauce.Designed in a contemporary and easy-to-read format, Everyday Food boasts lush, full-color photography and plenty of suggestions for substitutions and variations. With Everyday Food, even the busiest on-the-go cook can look forward to meals that bring freshness, nutrition, and a range of flavors to dinner all week long.

Refrigerate any leftover sauce, covered, for up to 3 days. 1 slice (1/4 inch thick) peeled fresh ginger 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons roasted unsalted cashews 1/3 cup plain low-fat yogurt 1/4 cup packed cilantro leaves 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon curry powder Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper 1 1/2 pounds peeled and deveined large shrimp 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 In a food processor, pulse the ginger until finely chopped. Add the 3/4 cup cashews; process until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes. 2 Add the yogurt, cilantro, sugar, and curry powder; season with salt. Process until incorporated, 1 to 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed. Transfer to a serving bowl; sprinkle with the remaining cashews. 3 Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half the shrimp; cook until opaque throughout, 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat with the remaining tablespoon oil and remaining shrimp. Serve the shrimp with the sauce.

Great Cookbook! by E. Drake (Washington, DC) 5 Stars

I received this cookbook as a birthday present and love it so much that I am buying it for my sister for Christmas. Each recipe has a picture (which I find very helpful - how many times have you been cooking and thought "is this even close to what it's supposed to look like?"). The recipes seem more sophisticated than they are and I appreciate the work arounds they offer (i.e. if you don't have fish sauce use soy sauce and brown sugar - very helpful!). Would highly recommend this cookbook!

My go-to book for quick, nutritious, delicious meals most of which can be ready in 30 minutes. Very well thought-out book, (of course, from Martha...) contents are organized by seasons and availability of ingredients. Recipes hwave become famity faves.

Great food that fits into your busy life by K. Henderson (New York, NY) 5 Stars

The title of this book says it all: the food is excellent and the recipes are very straightforward. I'm not great in the kitchen, but this cookbook breaks things down into simple, easy steps so that even I can follow. The real test for me of a home-cooked meal is, is it worth the effort or would I have been better off ordering in? The food in this book is always worth it, very tasty and satisfying, and to guests who don't know the simplicity of the recipe, impressive! I have yet to make a recipe from this book I did not love. Highly recommended!

I need a prep chef... by daisycat 4 Stars

Let me first say that I'm a big fan of Everyday Food (the magazine and tv show). I also liked how the recipes all come with their own photo, and how the recipes in the book are divided into seasons (you are buying ingredients in the season you would find them at the market). None of the recipes look too complicated, very doable. HOWEVER, the time it takes to make a meal is significantly longer than the time stated at the beginning of each recipe. For instance, "Roasted Chicken and Vegetables" says it takes 10 minutes to prep(!), but the ingredients list calls for an acorn squash "halved, seeded and sliced," mushrooms [washed?] "trimmed and halved," onion "cut into wedges," 8 garlic cloves [peeled?] "crushed," chicken (you'd need to wash & trim that), and crushed rosemary. It took me almost an hour to do all this! Ten minutes, indeed. SO--nice recipes, glossy pictures, a nod to seasonality...but you better start prepping the meal way in advance of dinner!

If you have to buy one cook book buy this one!!! by Jodi Everson (St. Paul, MN United States) 5 Stars

I like that the book addresses the idea of eating for the seasons and has calorie counts as well. I've found that all of the recipes are easy and tasty. I give this as a gift often. Most of my friends aren't "cooks" so they all of said, "This is a useful cookbook for the non-chef."
