Product Description
NOW A LIFETIME ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING IN OCTOBER!Having recently graduated from Columbia Journalism School and landed her dream job at 20/20, the last thing 27-year-old Geralyn expects to hear is a breast cancer diagnosis. And there is one part of the diagnosis that no one will discuss with her: what it means to be a young girl with cancer in a beauty-obsessed culture. Trying to find herself, while losing her vibrancy and her looks, Geralyn embarks on a road to self-acceptance that will inspire all women. Although her book is explicitly about a period of time where she was driven by fear and uncertainty about the future, Geralyn managed a transformation that will encourage all women under siege to discover their own courage and beauty. The important and outrageous lessons of Why I Wore Lipstick come fast and furious with the same gusto that Geralyn has learned to bring to every moment of her life.

Self-absorbed by Cari B. Clark (Northern VA USA) 1 Stars

This is one of a couple of self-absorbed, whiny "why me?" breast cancer books out there. I feel for someone who gets breast cancer at age 28 (I got it at age 48) but hearing about her fabulous celebrity-strewn job, doctor husband, doting parents and siblings and other relatives who she insisted accompany her to every treatment and doctor's visit, got old. Having been through a similar experience, I was a bit surprised that 1. she elected to have a mastectomy for a relatively small tumor, and 2. they took so many of her lymph nodes. I'm surprised they were not doing sentinel-node location in New York at the time of her surgery. Good for her for wearing lipstick to her mastectomy. Good for her for having a baby post-chemotherapy. But don't waste your time on her navel-gazing story. I don't think her courage was all that remarkable. The only reason her story was published was because of her high-profile job, Ivy League degrees and name-dropping. Many other women suffer more, in a much more dignified and less public way, every single day.

Love the book. I read it before sending it on to a friend that had recently had a mastectomy. I hope she finds the inspiration that Geralyn Lucas had.

I have been struggling to get through this book. It is very sad that Ms. Lucas had breast cancer at an early age but I found her book to be superficial and egocentric. I hope she achieves a higher level of maturity as her journey progresses.

A must read!!! by C. Haynie (Orlando, FL) 5 Stars

I originally watched this movie on Lifetime, and everytime I see it I cry. So I decided to read the book. It is so much better (even my daughter is enjoying it)! It is very moving.
