Great Info as far as it goes by Susan Kidder (Paris, KY United States) 4 Stars

All the reviews above I would repeat; however, I was disappointed that the book did not address the constellation of problems that can affect the elderly Alzheimer's patient. Many of the suggestions given in the book would not work for my mom, who was nearly blind, wore hearing aids, and had COPD severe enough to limit her mobility.

The Alzheimer's Action Plan is reader friendly. Made for the caregiver or anyone who is interested in Alzheimer's/Dementia. I found it an easy read, very informative in all areas of dementia. The beginning takes you through, `Could it be Alzheimer's?' then `what looks like, and feels like Alzheimer's but isn't', I found this to be very interesting, being recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, (hypothyroidism foggy brain) I had been a caregiver for fourteen years to my dearest friend with Alzheimer's, and know what this disease does, from diagnose to ending death. I've worked with Alzheimer's victims, and their caregivers, and know how helpful this book would be to anyone around the disease. This book takes your through medications, clinical trials, stages of the disease, and much more. It is a caregiver's handbook.I have never come across a book that is so easy to understand, for the professional and non-professional. It's about time something like this has come out. I'm sure this will help a lot of people. Just look at some of the captioned reviews. Excellent for care givers and children of by C. Wagner (On the banks of the Wabash far away) 4 Stars

This is an excellent current guide for caregivers and children of persons with Alzheimer's disease. But, if you are interested in non-Alzheimer's memory problems, you will need another source. The subtitle led me to believe the book would have more general coverage in that area. But the authors do discuss family support, intervention and medical treatements. Taking care of one's self (diet, exercise both aerobic and anaerobic, and careful management of high blood pressure, diabetis, and cholesterol) might delay or slow the progress of the disease. A very useful list of resources with websites is appended. A wise read for persons with interest in this medical arena.

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to understand Alzheimer's disease. Every caregiver should try to read it. Although the subject is difficult, the book was written to be easily read. I have a family member with dementia, from Post Pump Syndrome, after having open heart surgery, and this explained a lot of questions I had. Alzheimer's, dementia, is going to be a big problem in the future as we live longer. I highly recommend this book.

Reading this book helped me spot a drug that my father should not have been taking, and the doctor I queried about it immediately took my Dad off that drug. The book is helping me recognize my Dad's symptoms and stages and is useful for its suggestions of coping strategies, and as other members of my family read this book, it is providing a shared vocabulary that helps us talk to each other. My one complaint is that the book stops after the "mid-stage" of Alzheimers; I need to learn more about what comes after that. But it is a relief to get up-to-date information about beginning and mid-stages of Alzheimer's.
