This recipes are a little crazy though, not anything I could get my family to eat. Still you can create your own once you have the concepts down.

He absolutely shows us the way to ALL the benefits of the perfect nutrition of veggies and fruits. So why do humans keep insisting on the consumption of animal-source foods for their pleasure......and ultimate physical, emotional & sometimes, financial downfall?? Is living that bad that we have to keep punishing our bodies needlessly? Why go to the grave sick, broke & unhappy? Why not wake up, smell the roses (literally!), and enjoy life as best as we can? That enjoyment CAN include a salad instead of a steak, an apple instead of a candy bar, and a sweet potato instead of a Twinkie.
Dr Fuhrman is to be admired for his stand against the medical, pharmaceutical & food industries, who only see profits in what they sell. Furhman sees whole health for us, at costs MUCH less than drugs, surgery & hospital visits. He joins a growing list of doctors joining the ranks of those really solving the health crisis in America......by promoting nutrition, nutrition, nutrition.
| | It's a Big Change by Vandy Starkweather (Ft. Lauderdale, FL USA) 5 Stars June 01, 2009 My husband and I had become vegetarian a year ago after reading "Skinny Bitch," but we were eating badly. We seemed to compensate for giving up prime rib by eating mass quantities of pancakes and baked goods. So we didn't lose any weight or get any healthier. That's not the fault of SB, they warn against dairy and sugar and fat food, we just didn't follow it. I concluded that we needed a more detailed and specific weight loss plan for vegetarians, and this came up in my search. We have been on it for 6 days now and it is definitely causing weight loss. I have lost 8 pounds, he has lost 12. We both feel good, and more importantly, hopeful. It's too soon to tell what will happen in the long run, but today this is actually working.
The book has all the nutritional discussion up front that I expect in a diet book. It gives a lot of information, much of it familiar, some of it new and startling. (Fish oil might be bad for you.) Where it excels is that you can go straight to the plan, starting on page 175, and get busy. He includes a shopping list. The plan is simple and easy to follow.
He is sympathetic to the idea that giving up all the foods we love (or even like) is painful. He encourages the reader that if we stick to this for 6 weeks, we will lose our cravings and enjoy eating healthier. I hope he is right. I have to say that today I am looking forward to my salad, and I never thought that would happen.
I gave it five stars because he delivers what he promises, there is no "bait and switch" or pseudo-mystical components to this book, and no pseudo-science either, which sometimes happens in a self help or diet book. It is organized in a way that makes it useful and simple to follow. When I have a question, it is easy to find the answer.
This book has offered me a way to change my life that I find appealing and also realistic. It is also quick. It is as close to instant gratification as a diet can get. It offers a way to lose 20 pounds in six weeks without having to have your gall bladder out, and then offers motivation to adopt this as a permanent lifestyle. I recommend it to anyone who wants to give up obesity and live a truly healthy and highly sustainable life.
| | A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE by Sparky 5 Stars June 01, 2009 I read and followed this books advice. I have lost over 30 pounds. My cholesterol and triglycerides are the lowest (in normal range) for the first time in years. I eat more than I did before of the foods recommended by Dr. Fuhrman in this book and continue to lose weight. The first 20 pounds came off just as he said. Since that my weight loss has been gradual. I have more energy than before, feel better and can fit into pants I wore in college.
If you want to positively change your life through eating, read and follow the directions in Dr. Fuhrmans book!
