Product Description
This innovative text organizes functional groups around mechanistic similarities emphasizing what functional groups do rather than how they are made. The strategy of tying together the reactivity of a functional group and the synthesis of compounds resulting from its reactivity prevents students from having to memorize lists of unrelated reactions. This organization allows a great deal of material to be understood in light of unifying principles of reactivity.Bruice balances coverage of traditional topics with bioorganic chemistry to show how organic chemistry is related to biological systems and to our daily lives. The Sixth Edition has been revised and streamlined throughout to enhance clarity and accessibility, and adds a wealth of new problems and problem-solving strategies.

Better than the other organic chem books. by Just another college student 4 Stars
November 28, 2009
Organic Chem is a HARD subject. That being said, I think this text (5th edition) does a great job with explaining concepts. It's filled with colorful and more vivid pics than the other texts. Make sure that when you buy this text, buy the SOLUTIONS MANUAL as well. Trust me, you will do much better and understand the material much more with the solutions manual. Some tips: -Highlight stuff. You may think that you "get it," but unless you highlight or actively take notes, you probably don't totally understand what's going on. -Finish ALL of the problems at least a week before your exam. If you don't try practice problems, you will FAIL your exam! Most test questions are like book problems. -Stay caught up. It's really easy to fall behind, but this is the one class you do not want to put off work for. It's impossible to get an A by studying/learning everything the night before (unless you have a way-too-easy professor).

Even though this is a later edition of the textbook I needed for my course it contains all the same information and cost about $200 less. The book was used but was in great shape. Thank you.
