Product Description
Principles of Corticosteroid Therapy is the first book ever to provide a thorough and systematic review of the clinical use of corticosteroids. This class of drug provides a potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive action and is among the most widely used in medicine. However, these drugs have many serious side effects on many organ systems. Proper use requires a thorough understanding of their mechanism of action, clinical indications, and adverse effects. This book is the major work on corticosteroids since they were developed and first used approximately 50 years ago. It outlines in detail the use of corticosteroids in diseases that affect each organ system, and follows with a thorough discussion of their side effects. It analyses the use of corticosteroids in pregnancy, neonatal period, childhood and adolescence, and covers special management issues such as pulse corticosteroid therapy, and medicolegal aspects. Principles of Corticosteroid Therapy will be of major interest to internists, family physicians, pediatricians, and all physicians who prescribe corticosteroids. Medical students will find it especially useful during their training in pharmacology and clinical medicine and it will be an indispensable text to residents in internal medicine and all its subspecialties. Written by internationally recognized clinicians in internal medicine, immunology, rheumatology, and other fields of medicine, Principles of Corticosteroid Therapy is the first comprehensive and authoritative text to discuss the clinical use of corticosteroids.
