| Everyone will need this book at some point by Kelli Sefton 5 Stars October 19, 2009 This is my gift of choice when someone I know looses a close family member.
It helps them realize what they are experiencing is normal. Highly recommended,
skip the flowers, wait a few weeks then send this book, it will make a difference
in the person's life.
| | The Best Little Book Out There! by Mary Lou Duggan 5 Stars October 13, 2009 Using quotes from various sources, the author touches on all areas of grief through short reflections that will very often be just what you need to hear. Everyone in our support group voted it higher than any other resource and I use it to express sympathy to friends when the need arises.
| | this helped me by Linda L. Englander (Chicago) 5 Stars October 01, 2009 After my father passed away last year a friend gave me the book Healing After Loss. I found it a great comfort and helpful tool in dealing with and living through my grief. During the grieving process, I found there were times that I was at a loss for how exactly to process what I was feeling emotionally. This book helped me each day I read it by providing insight and comfort. I found the short chapters especially helpful because often it is hard to concentrate for longer periods of time after the loss of a loved one. I have since given it to several people who have lost loved ones in the hope they will find some comfort.
| | Heals the soul by Sully 5 Stars September 23, 2009 This book was recommended by a friend, what a godsend. My father died this past March and the loss is huge to me as we were very close and I helped care for him for many years. A few weeks after his death, this book became my friend, guidance counselor and haven for inconsolable grief. The author created this book after the loss of her teenage daughter; however, her carefully selected quotations, writings and her interpretations of the same have relevance for all who've lost a loved one.
| | A bible for the grief stricken by budhil 5 Stars September 20, 2009 During my ongoing grief of losing a beloved wife and partner of 54 years, Martha Whitmore Hickman's book has broght me more comfort than any other single thing that I can name. Since she experienced the grief of losing her own daughter at the age of 16, and has been to "that place." Many of the dated pages (there is one page for each day in the year) seem as though they were written exclusively for or about me. She has a beautiful grasp of what grief is and a unique ability to express it. Those of us who grieve search for ways to describe and explain it, but few have that ability. Martha Whitmore Hickman does! It has been slightly over 2 years since my loss and I read a page from her book, coinciding with the days date, every night, and probably will the rest of my life. I have purchased several copies, as I do not believe one could send a more meaningful gift to any person who has lost a loved one. Raymond C. Hildreth, Newington CT
