Good for Beginning Rockhounds and Geology Students by Laverne Megee (Grand Junction, CO USA) 4 Stars
September 17, 2009
It's an older book but geology is an old science and the definitions are useful for general purpose...like rockhounds and beginning geology students or earth science students. You can use this to learn all sorts of things about geology, rockhounding, etc. After all, most learning in geology is definitions anyway. The more newly discovered minerals, after all, won't be here, so crystallographers & mineralogists will have to look elsewhere. It's a good reference dictionary. I bought a more current version because I was required to by a crystallography and mineralogy professor.

Indispensible resource by Roberta E. Listerman 5 Stars

For anyone out there interested in the brown that makes our planet green, they need this book. AS a potter, and teacher of glaze chemistry, I am always interested in knowing what I am burning. The technical, and sometimes not so technical lingo can confuse me. I keep this book handy. You can really blow your friends away at Scrabble too! Enjoy

Best in the Discipline by Donald M. Thieme (Valdosta, GA) 5 Stars

This is an indispensable reference for professional geologists as well as amateurs. Some terms that have fallen out of use are defined with obsolete concepts, but those do turn up every now and then in both amateur and professional contexts. No doubt it needs to be revised soon. However, most of us have a copy and many of us need it.

This is a great book... it has not let me down yet! It is an absolute essential for anyone interested in rocks, minerals, gemstones, and the earth in general.

Great reference to have on your desk! by Marc M. (Phoenix, Arizona United States) 5 Stars

To all working geologists! You should all have this on your desks! I used it to study for the ASBOG exam and have since found it invaluable in my working life. It has all the odd and obscure geological terms that we all have heard in college but have since forgotten. Its a great reference!
