EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Suicide would appear to be the last taboo. Even incest is now discussed freely in popular media, but the suicide of a loved one is still an act most people are unable to talk about--or even admit to their closest family or friends. This is just one of the many painful and paralyzing truths author Carla Fine discovered when her husband, a successful young physician, took his own life in December 1989. And being unable to speak openly and honestly about the cause of her pain made it all the more difficult for her to survive. With No Time to Say Goodbye, she brings suicide survival from the darkness into light, speaking frankly about the overwhelming feelings of confusion, guilt, shame, anger, and loneliness that are shared by all survivors. Fine draws on her own experience and on conversations with many other survivors--as well as on the knowledge of counselors and mental health professionals. She offers a strong helping hand and invaluable guidance to the vast numbers of family and friends who are left behind by the more than thirty thousand people who commit suicide each year, struggling to make sense of an act that seems to them senseless, and to pick up the pieces of their own shattered lives. And, perhaps most important, for the first time in any book, she allows survivors to see that they are not alone in their feelings of grief and despair. |

| A MUST by Heidi Gipprich 5 Stars October 08, 2009 If you or someone you know has recently lost someone to suicide, regardless of relationship, you must read this book. Then read it again. And again.
This is an easy read that speaks to you, not at you. Carla Fine is a Saint for sharing her experiences and doing the research she did to bring the experiences of others to those of us so lost due to the tragedy of suicide.
| | Goes in depth into a disturbing subject by MrPraveen09 (CARY, NC USA) 4 Stars October 08, 2009 Although I never had to experience this subject with a loved one I did have many friends who knew people that went through with suicide, and it changed some of their lives. This book is a real eye opener for what suicide can do to a family and what needs to be done in order to deal with it. I just thought the opener of the book was kind of graphic and all the details didn't have to be included. I suggest those interested first rent the book from their local library.
| | This book is a must for a survivor of a suicide. by Deborah A. Smoot (Tucson Arizona) 5 Stars September 17, 2009 This book is written in a compassionate, logical, and informative manner. I was astounded by the way she actually answered a lot of my questions and assured me along the way with what she wrote.
Its not sentimental nor clinical, yet I felt as though I were being talked to by another human being who had actually gone through the terrible maze that we survivors go through.
Ms. Fine offers great insight, and resources to all survivors of suicide, e.g spouses, parents, children, etc.
I am very glad I purchased & read this book cover to cover. It has helped me a lot.
| | Necessary... by Maria Rivera (Austin, TX) 5 Stars July 30, 2009 Carla Fine allows survivors the gift of feeling so connected to her, as well as all those whose stories were courageously shared in this well-written book that validates a survivor's mindset after losing a loved one. I came to this book needing a lifeline after the death of my brilliant, 33-year-old brother. There's no magic formula for learning to cope after this tremendous loss, but I felt reassured by hearing others' stories that I'm not as alone in my thoughts as I might feel some days. Please take care of yourself. Reading this will help.
| | This book was and is a must have for my journey by India Alexis (New York City) 5 Stars April 06, 2009 I can't say enough about this book. When my best friend/life partner committed suicide in January, I couldn't sleep or do much of anything. This book kept me company, I read it straight through and then kept it with me through the first months all the time. I needed to know others were experiencing the same confusing and debilitating grief. Very, very helpful. I recommend it to everyone who is a survivor.
